{"id":1437,"date":"2011-07-01T09:43:28","date_gmt":"2011-07-01T16:43:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dvdpinson.com\/?p=1167"},"modified":"2011-07-01T09:43:28","modified_gmt":"2011-07-01T16:43:28","slug":"introducing-katie-sever","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cinemastance.com\/?p=1437","title":{"rendered":"Introducing Katie Sever!!!!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/www.stumbleupon.com\/hostedbadge.php?s=1\"><\/script><br \/>\nHello All!\u00a0 As a new reviewer for DVDPinson.com I thought I would introduce myself the only way I know how!\u00a0 I am going to tell you a little bit about myself by telling you about the kinds of movies that I love!\u00a0 Eh, hem\u2026Pay attention!<\/p>\n<p><strong>#1.\u00a0 SCREAM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Horror movies own my life.\u00a0 Not these new gore-tastic gimmick flicks (at least, not for me!), those are not true Horror Films.\u00a0 A true horror film is able to scare you without ever drawing blood.\u00a0 That is why I love Horror films that were made before my time (aka: the slow ones).\u00a0 I also love horror films because of what they represent.\u00a0 The best horror films ever made were made by independent newbies and newcomer hopefuls.\u00a0 \u201cHalloween\u201d for example:\u00a0 \u201cHalloween\u201d still makes most lists when critics discuss the best horror films of all time.\u00a0 John Carpenter wasn\u2019t some millionaire with a half interesting idea; he was a visionary with a couple of bucks and a tiny crew of friends who happened to have a leaf-blower on hand!\u00a0 Horror films represent the Indies!\u00a0 They represent the newbie actors!\u00a0 And, last but not least, they represent the little guy!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>That being said, my favorite Horror movie is in no way made by a little guy, but I love it all the same.\u00a0 The film that always gets me laughing and squirming is none other than \u201cScream,\u201d the original.\u00a0 The one where Deputy Dewie Boy eats his ice cream and Rose McGowan plays his little sis!\u00a0 The one with the liver in the mail box and the \u201cGut you like a pig,\u201d dialogue.\u00a0 Also known as \u201cThe One Where Sid Goes PG-13.\u201d\u00a0 (That last one was a \u201cFriends\u201d joke\u2026\u00a0 get it? \u00a0\u2026. Never mind.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>#2.\u00a0 Vicki Christina Barcelona<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Woody Allen.\u00a0 Woody Allen deserves his own category.\u00a0 His style doesn\u2019t change (even if his genre slips); he is first and foremost a philosophical Jewish boy with great story sense and a love for run-on dialogue.\u00a0 You either love him or you don\u2019t.\u00a0 You either have a brain, or you don\u2019t want one.\u00a0 That being said\u2026\u00a0\u00a0 I like my brain and I do love Woody Allen Films.\u00a0 I could pick one movie of his to gush over.\u00a0 I could go for the easy pick and highlight \u201cAnnie Hall\u201d as a master work of comedic cinema.\u00a0 OR I could be truthful and tell you all how much I obsessed over \u201cVicki Christina Barcelona\u201d when it came out a couple of summers ago.\u00a0 But no, no\u2026 I\u2019m not going to do that.\u00a0 I\u2019d rather just highlight his entire collection.\u00a0 There are some losers and some winners but overall, each Woody Allen film has Woody\u2019s internal dialogue as the main motivation and drive.\u00a0 Every actor in a Woody Allen film must speak Woody Allen and become Woody Allen.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0And I like that about the guy, sure, he can write and the proof is in the pudding.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#3<\/strong>.<strong> GRINDHOUSE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Quentin Tarantino.\u00a0 I do not believe that elaboration is necessary.\u00a0 However, I digress.\u00a0 I am one of the few who could not get enough of \u201cDeath Proof\u201d and its \u201cPlanet Terror\u201d companion (Robert Rodriguez is not so bad himself).\u00a0 Some called it weak but I called it a successful throwback with exquisite GIRL POWER!\u00a0 There was nothing sissy about that piece&#8230; except the cheerleader but.. HEY!\u00a0 Shut up! I liked her!\u00a0 Let\u2019s just say that Tarantino has a special place in my heart.\u00a0 The fact that his last project was a WWII venture, is enough to make me weep with gratitude (Not really, there is weeping! I kid! I kid!).<\/p>\n<p>That double-feature had the perfect balance of glam and gore.\u00a0 Filmmakers should poke fun of history\u2019s Cinematic creations a whole lot more often!<\/p>\n<p><strong>#4.<\/strong> <strong>PRIDE AND PREJUDICE<\/strong> (A&amp;E Miniseries)<\/p>\n<p>Alright, this one may not be a movie, but it explains a lot.\u00a0 I take a liking to the miniseries.\u00a0 Not just this miniseries, but this one does seem to stand out.\u00a0 Lately, networks and production companies have been shelling out some GREAT television productions.\u00a0 This Miniseries is my personal favorite.\u00a0 Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy is both hilarious and tortured.\u00a0 Since seeing this production I have taken delight in DEVOURING anything else that Andrew Davies decides to adapt!\u00a0 I have yet to be let down.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#5.<\/strong> <strong>WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I love this film.\u00a0 If you are wondering where I stand on fart jokes and toilet humor, go ahead and watch this movie and you will have your answer.\u00a0 If I had one guess who this film was made for, my answer would be: THE CAST.\u00a0 These not so famous people were just hanging out at a rainy abandoned camp site with close to no script.\u00a0 What they made can only be described as ridiculous evidence of their comedic talent.\u00a0\u00a0 This is another one of those, love-it or hate-it films.\u00a0 Some people don\u2019t get it.\u00a0 I get it.\u00a0 Quirky films are my drug of choice.\u00a0 I take them even over Horror films.\u00a0 Another film with odd humor and a self-obsessed cast of characters is \u201cStrangers with Candy\u201d.\u00a0 This film is also great.<\/p>\n<p>Also, camp-related films, in general, are always a pleaser:\u00a0 \u201cHeavyweights,\u201d \u201cCamp Nowhere,\u201d \u201cThe Parent Trap,\u201d \u201cFriday the 13<sup>th<\/sup>,\u201d and even \u201cIt Takes Two\u201d.\u00a0 They all do it for me.\u00a0 Even boarding school films work because they remind me of being at camp (\u201cLost and Delirious\u201d is my favorite boarding school film).\u00a0 Any film where it seems like the kids don\u2019t have parents is a film that I can get onboard with.\u00a0 Meaning: Kids, when left unsupervised, can be overly strange.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#6.<\/strong> <strong>MULHOLLAND DRIVE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I LOVE ART-HOUSE.\u00a0 Some people see this film and go, \u201cwhy did I just waste my time on that crap?!\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019m not like those people.\u00a0 Art-house films humor me in general.\u00a0 \u201cMulholland Drive\u201d still confuses the hell out of me, but that is pretty much the point. \u00a0See also:\u00a0 \u201cThe Anniversary Party,\u201d \u201cPan\u2019s Labyrinth,\u201d \u201cDaytrippers,\u201d \u201cMargot at the Wedding,\u201d \u201cRachel Getting Married,\u201d \u201cHigh Art,\u201d and \u201cPunch Drunk Love\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>An Art-house film is basically any film that uses the cinema as art.\u00a0 With this in mind, I can also add\u00a0 my weirdo favs like \u201cMasculine Feminine\u201d and Maya Daren\u2019s Short Film Collection.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#7. \u00a0THE GOONIES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This really should be my #1.\u00a0 No clue why it took me so long to get to &#8220;The Goonies&#8221;.\u00a0 I can probably quote this whole film from beginning to end.\u00a0 When they re-released the \u201cSpecial Edition\u201d DVD a few years back, I was one of the only ones in my group of friends who noticed that they CUT a couple of scenes and slyly snuck them in as \u201cSpecial Features\u201d on the DVD.\u00a0 I was appalled.\u00a0 I even brought out my old DVD taped off of the Disney Channel -with commercials- just to make sure I wasn\u2019t a total loon.\u00a0 The special features on that DVD freaked me out, but I was right; it was a hoax.\u00a0 However, that DVD did make the most recent re-release of &#8220;The Goonies&#8221; a whole lot better.\u00a0 Never again will I politely sit by and watch the Goonies swim right from their cave slides to the pirate ship when I know for a fact that they should be playing footsie under the water and be picking a fight with a fake Octopus who will, in-turn, eat their nifty Walkman!<\/p>\n<p><strong>#8.\u00a0 BEAUTY AND THE BEAST<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I have decided that all Classic Disney films are amazing, even the sad one about that fox and that hound who just couldn\u2019t be friends anymore\u2026 Even \u201cPete\u2019s Dragon\u201d with those scary Gogans and Helen Reddy up in that lighthouse.\u00a0 Currently my favorite is \u201cThe Princess and the Frog\u201d.\u00a0 Yes, it IS another throwback film.\u00a0 People who do not like this film should not be allowed to claim that they love classic Disney.\u00a0 \u201cThe Princess and the Frog\u201d has classic Disney written all over it, it\u2019s basically formulaic.<\/p>\n<p>No matter what my current Disney favorite it, I always revert back to \u201cBeauty and the Beast\u201d. \u00a0Gaston is such a human villain; in the end The Beast is fighting his former self in Gaston.\u00a0 And poor Belle, all she wanted was a single intellectual to converse with. \u00a0\u201cBeauty and the Beast\u201d is a classic fairytale that will always be relatable to any human on earth who can understand the dialogue sprouting forth from those animated pots and gadgets!<\/p>\n<p>On the topic of animation, Miyazaki wins second place.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#9.\u00a0 THE MUPPETS CHRISTMAST CAROL <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I am fond of musicals.\u00a0 Old and new, I usually love them.\u00a0 Granted, &#8220;The Pajama Game&#8221; was pretty ridiculous, but I\u00a0 enjoy a fine musical number every once in a while.\u00a0 As for Christmas films, they are good for me all year round.\u00a0 &#8220;Miracle on 34<sup>th<\/sup> Street,&#8221; &#8220;It\u2019s a Wonderful Life,&#8221; &#8220;While You Were Sleeping,&#8221; &#8220;Home For The Holidays,&#8221; if there\u2019s a Christmas tie-in I probably love it.\u00a0 I even consider &#8220;Sleepless In Seattle&#8221; to be a Christmas film&#8230; and &#8221; Gremlins&#8221; but that one is not as good.\u00a0 But, my favorite Christmas film of all time is &#8220;The Muppets Christmas Carol&#8221;.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll watch it all year round and it is my favorite Muppet movie ever made!\u00a0 As amazing as Frank Capra is, The Henson Co. still won me over with those singing puppets and that alien-like narrator who has a chicken fetish and a Charles Dickens alter-ego.\u00a0 Michael Caine makes the film what it is.\u00a0 The Muppets are grand but Caine goes on pretending that he\u2019s acting with REAL actors instead of fuzzy stuffed animals with wires holding up their hands.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#10.\u00a0 THE DARJEELING LIMITED <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wes Anderson.\u00a0 Genius.\u00a0 Gimme, gimme, more!<\/p>\n<p><strong>#11. EMPIRE RECORDS <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I was trying to stop at ten but I couldn\u2019t leave out &#8220;Empire Records&#8221;.\u00a0 Any film with The Cranberries on the soundtrack is worth the love.\u00a0 Rex Manning is the perfect anti-hero and nothing wraps up that 90\u2019s feeling of music loving slackerdom like a crew of hopeless kids working out there last adolescent days at their local record store.<\/p>\n<p>Music themed movies also hold a place in my heart.\u00a0 Baz Luhrmann\u2019s adaptation of &#8220;Romeo &amp; Juliet&#8221; still impresses me.\u00a0 &#8220;Dazed and Confused&#8221; is a masterpiece worthy of spot #11 but I went with the fluffy happy film instead of the dark and twisted story of the rampant hazing that may occur during the last week of school in the 70\u2019s.\u00a0 And, last but not least, &#8220;Almost Famous&#8221;. \u00a0\u00a0Ah, Penny Lane\u2026\u00a0 More Bandaids.. More Records\u2026 \u00a0And more of Zooey Deschanel in a stewardess uniform.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#12. KNOCKED UP <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I may as well make it even.\u00a0 &#8220;Knocked Up&#8221; and &#8220;Forgetting Sarah Marshall&#8221; are two of my favorite films from the past decade.\u00a0 Judd Apatow may be getting crap for being a chauvinist but any film that can make me laugh after having seen it four or five times, is an instant hit with me!\u00a0 Say what you will ladies, I still love him!\u00a0 And thank you Jason Segal for writing &#8220;Forgetting Sarah Marshall&#8221;.\u00a0 I need more singing puppets in my life!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So there you have it.\u00a0 Some of my all-time favorite films!\u00a0 And I didn\u2019t even go into the real classics!\u00a0 Oy\u2026\u00a0 Don\u2019t even get me started\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Stay tuned for reviews, overviews, and announcements!\u00a0 I will be attending Comic-Con and I am always taking suggestions!<\/p>\n<p>For now:\u00a0 \u201cHere\u2019s lookin\u2019 at you, kid!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>P.S. <strong>#13.
