The second feature took a darker turn, so much so that sections of\nit distressed younger audience members. Following a TV series, the third and\nreportedly final chapter in the series has now arrived. <em>How to Train Your\nDragon: The Hidden World<\/em> is a more genial effort that will certainly please\nchildren. Truthfully, it lacks the same kind of drama seen in previous\ninstallments. However, some parents may still be pleased as this time out the\nevents are unlikely to result in any awkward conversations with their children about\nmortality. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cinemastance.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/How-To-Dragom-3-CU-1024x474.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17846\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since the last installment, Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) and his\ndragon Toothless have created a home where humans and dragons live in peace. In\nfact, they regularly lead clan members on missions to rescue dragons from nasty\nhumans. Unfortunately, there are some negative side effects to their\npartnership. Overpopulation has resulted in a crowded living space. It also draws\nthe attention of Grimmel the Grisley (F. Murray Abraham), a dragon hunter who\nwants to wipe out the lifeform, and in particular, Toothless. Grisley uses a\nfemale dragon to try to lure in his prey, while Hiccup deals with the pressures\nof being a leader, as well as his relationship with Astrid (America Ferrera). The\nprotagonist decides the answer is to try and find the Hidden World, described as\na mystical, undiscovered area where dragons are believed to live safe and free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cinemastance.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/How-To-Dragom-3-fire-1024x519.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17844\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The high points of this second sequel are the visuals. This\nis an impressively animated film with spectacular sights. It&#8217;s hard not to be\nimpressed at a sweeping skyline filled with flying dragons or with the\ncreatures soaring through clouds, hurricanes and other impressive environments.\nThis movie is obviously written with children in mind and so the jokes are very\nstraight-forward and direct. Still, a few may manage to earn laughs from older\naudience members. Toothless&#8217; awkward attempts to impress the female dragon with\ndances and movements are quite funny. Hiccup&#8217;s extremely verbose Viking friend\nRuffnut (Kristin Wiig) also earns a chuckle as her constant chatter grates on\nGrisley. And there are a couple of decent sight gags as well, including sheep\ndecked out in dragon costumes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cinemastance.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/How-To-Dragom-3-flying-1024x438.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17845\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s all very sweet, although this follow-up does come off\nas far tamer than others in the series. The villain of the piece is well-voiced\nbut isn&#8217;t given memorable dialogue or much personality more than that of a generic\nantagonist. While there is a tense moment or two towards the close, there\ncertainly isn&#8217;t as much imminent danger present in this adventure. And\ncuriously enough for a film titled after its Hidden World, viewers won&#8217;t see an\nawful lot of the locale beyond one sequence or get any sort of impression of\nhow it came to be. It also comes across as remarkably easy to find.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cinemastance.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/How-To-Dragom-3-dragons-1024x464.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17848\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At least the finale does have pleasant messages about\nbelieving in yourself and allowing those around you to follow their own path,\neven if it doesn&#8217;t present its heroes with many struggles in reaching its big\nconclusion. Still, the movie has a few nice moments towards the end that should\nprovide fans with appropriate closure to the series. <em>How to Train Your\nDragon: The Hidden World<\/em> isn&#8217;t as unforgettable as earlier chapters, but it\ndoes manage to end the trilogy without crashing to the ground.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Based on a series of children&#8217;s books, the original How to Train Your Dragon was surprisingly fun and effective, following a young Viking who decided to upset societal norms and befriend a dragon instead of slaying it.
