Takes Viewers on an Entertaining Trip"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cinemastance.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/24_0009_B-merged.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13811\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>This feature will be available for streaming August 28<sup>th<\/sup> on Amazon Prime.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Laughs may be hard to come by these days, so it\u2019s wonderful\nwhenever a flick seemingly arrives out of the blue to provide some chuckles.\nSuch is the case with the British title <em>Get Duked!<\/em>, which melds horror movie\ntropes and narcotic-related humor. This is a small film that may not go down as\nthe greatest comedy of all time, but does provide some entertainingly idiotic\nshenanigans that will more than likely bring a few smiles to the faces of genre\nfans. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cinemastance.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/get-duked-group-press-shot-1024x596.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21141\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The film opens with teacher Mr. Carlyle (Jonathan Aris)\nshowing a film on the Duke of Edinburgh Award trek, a multi-day excursion into\nthe Scottish Highlands. It\u2019s a challenge that requires teamwork, foraging and orienteering\nskills to accomplish. Delinquent students Dean (Rian Gordon), DJ Beatroot\n(Viraj Juneja) and Duncan (Lewis Gribben) face expulsion if they don\u2019t complete\nthe journey. They are joined by a strait-laced homeschooled teen named Ian\n(Samuel Bottomley), who hopes to pad his university application with a completion\ncertificate. After heading out on the trail, the youths catch sight of The Duke\n(Eddie Izzard), a rifle-toting figure who resembles the Duke of Edinburgh. This\nvillain terrorizes the quartet and states that he wants to hunt and \u201ccull the\nherd\u201d, wiping out youngsters that he deems beneath his personal standards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cinemastance.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/get-duked-izzard-wife-1024x588.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21144\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The movie gets to business quickly, with the teens and\nthreat clearly established within the first ten minutes. Initially, there is\nteensy bit of conflict and tension within the group as well as a bizarrely\ncomical backstory involving the students burning down a lavatory. However, all four\nkids quickly make an entertaining and engaging impression. It soon becomes\nclear that the so-called wrongdoers are far from mean-spirited and their bad\nbehavior is nothing more than ineffective posturing to try and make themselves\nlook impressive. Ian earns some laughs comedically trying in vein to keep the\ngroup moving focused and goal-oriented, but the immediate task becomes the least\nof their issues after the sinister hunter starts firing upon the panicked\ngroup. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cinemastance.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/get-duked-farmer-rap-1024x593.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21142\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As events progress, the is a great deal of amusing material from\nDJ Beatroot. Some fun gags are derived from the character\u2019s concern over\ngetting mud on his fancy and completely inappropriate duds. The figure also\nearns some yuks rapping and rhyming his way through the conflict. In fact, every\ncharacter gets a moment to shine and the slow shift among the protagonists from\nbickering to camaraderie becomes funnier and funnier as things become more\noutrageous. There are also effective gags featuring officers at a nearby police\nstation who use a board with increasingly ridiculous placards to detail the\ncriminals and threats occurring in the area. Even Mr. Carlyle gets the opportunity\nto deliver an effective observation involving teenagers being allowed to\nparticipate in such a dangerous activity before he suffers some outrageous mishaps.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cinemastance.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/get-duked-group-drug-effect-1024x544.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21143\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This a sort of stoner comedy, so the boys do take part in some trippy psychotropic experiences involving the use of drugs. The movie gets a lot of mileage out heads expanding and warping onscreen after some illicit substances are consumed. Admittedly, not all of the hallucinogenic visions or gross-out gags involving bloodshed and scatological humor are hysterical, but a lot of snappy comments and bizarre sights do earn a laugh. And amid the gory slapstick, the movie ties things up nicely and effectively satirizes upper class elitism and snobbery with aplomb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Scottish accents are thick and this certainly isn\u2019t high art, but <em>Get Duked!<\/em> is a fun comedy featuring some likable and at times knuckle-headed young leads. The end results will undoubtedly deliver a pleasing buzz to genre fans who favor humor over horror. This is a low-budget flick that hits the spot and takes viewers on a quick, zippy and entertaining trip. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This feature will be available for streaming August 28th on Amazon Prime.
