<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n12 Hour Shift<\/em> \u2013 A junkie nurse in Arkansas has an\nincredibly long and strenuous shift after her cousin approaches her with an\nelaborate scheme. The relative and his dangerous pals want to pull a heist on\nthe hospital where the lead works and steal various organs to sell on the black\nmarket. She attempts to assist in the robbery, but things do not go as planned\nand the entire group find themselves in over their heads. Response towards this\nindependent horror\/comedy was generally positive. A small contingent did find\nthe storyline in poor taste and couldn\u2019t find humor in the execution of the\nconcept. However, the majority called the film an entertainingly mean little\nB-movie with great performances. It stars Angela Bettis, David Arquette, Chloe\nFarnworth, Mick Foley, Kit Williamson and Nikea Gamby-Turner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A**holes: A Theory<\/em> \u2013 This documentary investigates some\nhorrible recent worldwide trends. The filmmakers note the resurgence of\nauthoritarianism, the venomous and cruel comments being posted on social media\nand point out a loss of civility, as well as a general and sweeping narcissism\nacross the world. Using interviews conducted with experts and identifying some\nof the traits contributing to becoming an a**hole, the film shows what has made\nit a popular movement\u2026 and what can be done in order to stunt this behavior.\nCritics were very upbeat about the feature. They all stated that it tackled a\ndark subject in an amusing and humorous way instead of preaching. They also\nfelt it delivered strong points that would leave audiences thinking. John\nCleese appears as one of the many interview subjects and shares his thoughts on\nthe topic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Even After Everything<\/em> \u2013 Trouble arises out of the\nblue for wealthy housewife living a privileged life on the east coast. After\nher brother-in-law appears for an unexpected visit, his observations cause the\nprotagonist to question everything in her life. Specifically, she becomes more\naware of the dysfunction in her marriage. The lead begins to wonder if it isn\u2019t\ntoo late to change things and challenge the status quo. This independent\nfeature was completed in 2018 and has been available for streaming for a little\nwhile, but is now being released on disc. Unfortunately, there are no reviews\navailable for it, so those interested will have to go in without any knowledge\nof what will occur. The cast includes Alice Callahan, Chet Carlin, Donald\nCorren and Kate Dalton. <\/p>\n\n\n\n I\u2019m Too Old for This Sh*t: A Heavy Metal Fairy Tale<\/em> \u2013\nIn the early 1980s, a heavy metal band from Florida called Siren made local\nheadlines and was expected to become a hugely successful musical act worldwide.\nThis documentary details how bad luck, as well as shady business deals and\ntensions within the band caused things to fall apart before they hit the big\ntime. The movie catches up with the band today and follows their reaction after\na fan locates and approaches them 35 years after their breakup. The members are\nhired to appear and perform at a notable German heavy metal festival. Can the\nband get over their differences and mount a comeback? This picture is debuting\non disc which means that no one has seen it yet. As a result, there is no\ncritical consensus about the feature. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Love and Monsters<\/em> \u2013 A young man has been forced to\nlive underground for seven years after giant monsters take control of the\nplanet. The lonely man uses a radio to communicate with other settlements and\ncomes into contact with his old girlfriend. They fall for each other again over\nthe airwaves and the protagonist decides to venture aboveground and travel the\n80 miles to her colony to reconnect. Along the way, he must deal with countless\nbeasts. The press gave this feature solid marks. A very small group complained\nthat the jokes didn\u2019t land and that the movie climaxed on a sappy note.\nHowever, most called the project unique and adventurous with likable characters\nwho charmed them. It stars Dylan O\u2019Brien, Jessica Henwick, Michael Rooker, Dan\nEwing and Ariana Greenblatt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Moments in Spacetime<\/em> \u2013 Here\u2019s another effort that is\narriving without much fanfare despite having won an award or two at film\nfestivals. According to the press synopsis, the story follows a Thai immigrant\nadopted into a North American family after a tsunami in her homeland. Many\nyears later, she must look after her dementia-suffering adopted grandfather.\nWhen she discovers that her birth mother may not have died in the disaster, she\nteams with the elderly man to find the truth and decide where her future lies.\nAgain, there aren\u2019t many write-ups currently available, although there is one currently\nonline. The reviewer states that the movie is effective but omits important\nbackground details early on that could have engaged viewers in the story earlier.\nThe cast includes John Rhys-Davies, Patty Srisuwan and Sam Gittins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n My Dad\u2019s Christmas Date<\/em> \u2013 A sixteen-year-old decides\nto help her lonely father out and find him a companion two years after the passing\nof her mother. Also hoping to reconnect with her dad in the process, the\nprotagonist decides to take the initiative and creates profiles for him on\nmultiple dating platforms. Her efforts create a bit of strain in her\nrelationship with her pop, but he agrees to give it a try with sometimes comical\nresults. This UK production has only received a handful of notices so far. Most\nof them had a mixed-positive response. They described the film as being a\nwell-acted and sweet look at a father and daughter dealing with grief, but also\ncomplained that it does suffer from a predictable and formulaic structure. It\nfeatures Jeremy Piven, Olivia-Mai Barrett and Joely Richardson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Nina of the Woods<\/em> \u2013 In this independent horror\nfeature, a young aspiring actress decides to return to her home town. She does\nthis when she is asked to lend her knowledge about the area to a TV-crew\nproducing a show about supernatural entities\u2026 for an episode built around a\nlocal Bigfoot legend. After being led out into the nearby woods by a strange\nguide, they find themselves lost and contending with all sorts of bizarre\nphenomena. This chiller was released on streaming platforms a week or so ago\nand is now arriving on disc. Critics haven\u2019t really written any reviews on this\ntitle yet. Some bloggers have suggested that it\u2019s a good-looking little movie\nwith solid performances, although a few of them also state that the story ultimately\ndoesn\u2019t go anywhere of note. Megan Hensley and Shawn Patrick Boyd headline the\nfeature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Yellow Rose<\/em> \u2013 An undocumented 17-year-old Filipina\nimmigrant living in Texas dreams of becoming a country music singer. When her\nmother is taken away by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the teenager is\nforced to go on the run. Now on her own, she travels to Austin in the hopes of\nfinding a new start and making her aspirations come true. The press gave this\nmusic-based drama very high praise. Admittedly, a small percentage thought the\nmovie was a little too pleasant and feel-good in tone, diminishing its dramatic\nimpact. Regardless, the majority of reviewers were taken with the lead\nperformance and stated that the movie and its message was very sweet and\naffecting. It stars Eva Noblezada, Lea Salonga, Arlene Cavazos, Kelsey Pribilski and Gustavo Gomez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Blasts from the Past!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Kino aren\u2019t holding back this week, with a number of older\ntitles getting high-definition upgrades. Beach Red<\/em> (1967) is a WWII\nmovie about US Marines and Japanese forces preparing for military conflict. As\nthey begin their attacks, the men on both sides experience traumatic and\nhorrifying memories of the violence they have already seen on the battlefield.\nThe Blu-ray includes a theatrical trailer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Captain Newman M.D.<\/em> (1963) follows a doctor working\nat a stateside psychiatric hospital during WWII. He tries to use humor and\ncompassion to deal with the many patients struggling to with various\npsychological issues. This well-regarded features stars Gregory Peck, Tony\nCurtis, Angie Dickinson, Eddie Albert, Robert Duvall and many others. This\nBlu-ray comes with a film historian audio commentary and a trailer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The distributor also has a Blu-ray of Mario Ruspoli,\nPrince of the Whales<\/em> (2011), which is a feature film detailing the life of\na French\/Italian documentarian who created short subjects throughout the 1960s\nand 70s. The makers conclude that his innovate and engaging projects are in\nneed of re-evaluation by the public. In addition to the film itself, the disc\nincludes eight of his most famous shorts, including a film about whales that\ninspired the feature\u2019s title. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Rough Night in Jericho<\/em> (1967) is a western with Dean\nMartin, Jean Simmons and George Peppard about an ex-lawman and widow seeking\nrevenge on the town boss who ruined their lives. The Secret War of Harry\nFrigg<\/em> (1968) is a comedic WWII tale starring Paul Newman as a man who gets\nsent behind enemy lines to free some Army generals, but keeps getting\ndistracted by the lovely Italian ladies with whom he crosses paths. Texas\nAcross the River<\/em> (1966) is a comedy\/western with Martin about a gunrunner\ngets into all sorts of escapades in order to save his town and win back his\nlady love. All three Blu-rays include film historian commentaries and trailers.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n Back on the WWII front, Kino also have a Special Edition Blu-ray of the action-packed classic, The Train<\/em> (1964). This is a phenomenal effort starring Burt Lancaster. Set near the end of the conflict, the plot involves German forces leaving France and loading up a train with priceless stolen art treasures. Resistance members attempt to slow down and take control of the locomotive, in the hopes of returning the art to Paris without damaging any of these priceless masterpieces. It\u2019s a really effective and tense war film with great action, sharply directed by the great John Frankenheimer (Birdman of Alcatraz<\/em>, The Manchurian Candidate<\/em>, Seconds<\/em>, French Connection II<\/em>, Black Sunday<\/em>, Ronin<\/em>). It\u2019s a real winner and this new Blu-ray edition includes an archived commentary with the late director, a new film historian audio track, an isolated score track if you just want to listen to the music, the trailer, a trailer with commentary by fan and film director Brian Trenchard-Smith (The Siege of Firebase Gloria<\/em>), a booklet with a lengthy essay on the picture and more!<\/p>\n\n\n\n And Kino are also teaming up with Something Weird Cinema to\nrelease another Blu-ray in their Forbidden Fruit: The Golden Age of\nExploitation <\/em>collection. This is \u201cPicture 8\u201d in the series and is called Ingagi\n<\/em>(1930), which claimed to be a documentary about Africa and a\ngorilla-worshipping cult. The movie is actually filled with exploitative and\npolitically incorrect scenes that were staged for the camera and actually shot in\nLos Angeles. This disc includes the restored film with two historian commentary\ntracks who go into detail about its scandalous nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If you\u2019re looking for B-movie fun, then you have plenty of\noptions. Scorpion have the Mexican killer shark movie, Tintorera<\/em> (1977).\nA blatant knock-off of Jaws, this title features two shark-hunters trying to\nstop the aquatic threat from chowing down on vacationing beachgoers. The disc\nincludes a film expert commentary and a trailer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Code Red are releasing The Black Gestapo<\/em> (1975) on\nBlu-ray. This feature is about a black man in the Watts neighborhood of Los\nAngeles forming a vigilante squad to protect locals after the Mafia moves into\nthe area. The movie has been exclusively restored in 2K from the original\ncamera negative and arrives with interviews with stars Charles Robinson, Rod\nPerry and Charles Howerton. A commentary with Robinson and Perry is also included,\nas is a trailer for the movie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Savage Streets<\/em> (1984) is another cult classic about a\ngroup of high school students who are targeted by a local gang and their nasty\nleader. After the protagonist\u2019s sister is attacked, she and the other ladies\ndecide to take revenge on the perpetrators, hunting them down through the\nstreets of Los Angeles and making them suffer. Linda Blair (The Exorcist<\/em>)\nplays the lead. This Blu-ray includes multiple audio commentaries \u2013 one with\nthe director, another with supporting cast members and the producer. And\nthere\u2019s a third track with some of the cast and the cinematographer. You\u2019ll\nalso get individual interviews with Linda Blair and co-star Linnea Quigley, as\nwell as many more extras. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Art film fans will be happy to see that Criterion are\nputting out a new Blu-ray box set. It\u2019s called Three Films by Luis Bunuel<\/em>\nand includes The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie<\/em> (1972), The\nPhantom of Liberty<\/em> (1974) and That Obscure Object of Desire<\/em> (1977).\nIn addition to high-definition restorations of these classics, the release also\ncomes with archival documentaries on Bunuel and all three films, interviews\nwith the co-screenwriter of the three films as well as talks with numerous cast\nmembers from all of the features. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Universal Studios have decided to collect several of their\nreleases together and combine them into one new Blu-ray package. They are\nreleasing the Girls\u2019 Night In: 5-Movie Collection<\/em>, which includes the\nunrated version of Bridesmaids<\/em> (2011), Girls Trip<\/em> (2017), Pitch\nPerfect<\/em> (2012), the unrated cut of Sisters<\/em> (2015) as well as the\nuncut edition of Trainwreck<\/em> (2015). \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n Finally, Warner Archive also have a new made-to-order\nBlu-ray available for purchase. It\u2019s for The Man Who Would Be King<\/em> (1975),\na historical adventure feature about two power-seeking soldiers who decide to set\nthemselves up as leaders of Kafiristan (which is now part of Afghanistan). The\nmovie stars Sean Connery, Michael Caine and Christopher Plummer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n You Know, For Kids!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Here are a couple of titles that kids may enjoy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Groundhog Dave<\/em>: Season 1 On the Tube!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n And here are the latest TV-themed releases.
