Probably the most shocking element of the Globes this year was how tame host Ricky Gervais was. Sure he was funny (I particularly loved the observation that Eddie Murphy and Adam Sandler played every part in “The Help”) but there was no blood left on the stage. It was as if Hollywood has embraced him as the inappropriate uncle that always shows up at the important family events and you learn to take with a grain of salt.

I loved that Christopher Plummer won for “Beginners” and I will be shocked if he doesn’t take home the Oscar as well.

Did anyone ever figure out why “My Week with Marilyn” was designated “Comedy or Musical”? Either way, Michelle Williams’ win is much deserved.

My favorite television show of the year was “American Horror Story” and I was ecstatic when Jessica Lange took the trophy for “Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for TV”.
