The\npair accept the offer and travel to Los Angeles. While the leads are initially\nhappy with their treatment, they become suspicious of the organization\u2019s true\nintentions and begin to suspect that the clinic is actually a front for an\nillegal fraud operation. The press gave the movie more positive reviews than\nnegative ones. A group commented that the feature had a difficult time\nestablishing a singular tone, lacked passion and didn\u2019t quite work as a whole.\nHowever, slightly more found the story intriguing and the struggle of the\ncharacters both relatable and compelling. It stars Jack Kilmer, Alice Englert, Michael\nK. Williams, Jessica Rothe, Melissa Leo and Frank Grillo. The title is\npremiering on DVD only for the time being. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Boss Level<\/em> \u2013 A former special forces agent is\nmurdered and suddenly finds himself in a time loop, repeating his final day\nover and over. Desperate to find out exactly what happened and try to save\nhimself from his nasty fate, he learns more about the secret government project\nthat caused this temporal abnormality. After finding and confronting the\ncolonel running the program, hordes of assassins are sent to kill him. Response\nwas strong towards this action picture. Those who disliked it didn\u2019t care for\nits violent extravagances, calling it too silly and suggesting that the cast\nwere wasted. The majority stated that they enjoyed the performers and said the\nmovie provided plenty of over-the-top and entertainingly choreographed action.\nThe cast includes Frank Grillo, Naomi Watts, Mel Gibson, Annabelle Wallis, Ken\nJeong, Will Sasso and Michelle Yeoh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Crestone<\/em> \u2013 This documentary details a group of\nSoundCloud rappers who live a solitary life in the desert community of Crestone,\nColorado. The location was a religious mecca and now serves as home for these\nartists, who use the peaceful natural surroundings as a means to keep the\noutside world at bay while working. Apparently, the site helps build\nfriendships and collaborative projects between participants, with the intention\nof maximizing creative output. The press generally liked this non-fiction\nfeature. There were some who thought that the movie didn\u2019t ask enough tough\nquestions about how it all worked, thought the artists were living in squalor\nand found the movie exploitative. Still, the consensus was that the subjects lived\na fascinatingly odd existence and that the end results were hard to classify\nand intriguing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Crisis<\/em> \u2013 The opioid epidemic serves as the backdrop\nfor this drama. It tells three separate stories that slowly intertwine as events\nprogress. One section involves a drug trafficker smuggling product into the\ncountry, another details an architect searching in desperation for missing son\nand a third follows a figure who discovers that his pharmaceutical giant\nemployer is bringing a dangerous new product onto the market. Write-ups were\nmixed for this drama, although it did receive a more recommendations than\ncritical responses. A large section thought that the storytelling was bland and\nalso stated that the writing didn\u2019t allow for the characters to make an\nimpression. Yet more said that enough of it worked to keep them watching and\ncommented that the excellent work of cast members kept their attention. It\nfeatures Gary Oldman, Armie Hammer, Evangeline Lilly, Greg Kinnear, Michelle\nRodriguez, Luke Evans, Lily-Rose Depp and Kid Cudi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Death Ranch<\/em> \u2013 Set in the 1970s, this independent,\nlow-budget action\/horror picture follows three African-American siblings on the\nrun from police in the Tennessee backwoods. They find shelter on a nearby ranch,\nonly to discover that it is the hunting ground of a cannibalistic faction of\nthe Ku Klux Klan. The group must try to avoid capture, fight back against the\nhorrific menace and escape to safety. There currently aren\u2019t a lot of reviews\navailable for this title and it appears to be primarily debuting on disc.\nStill, one or two write-ups have been posted online and they have been largely upbeat.\nThese reviews state that the movie is a very well-acted and spine-tingling\nthrowback to old genre flicks. The cast includes Deiondre Teagle, Faith Monique, Travis Cutner, Scot\nScurlock and Brad Belemjian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Mortuary Collection<\/em> \u2013 Looking for more horror?\nThis anthology begins with a young drifter applying for work at a small-town\nmortuary. She meets an odd and eccentric mortician from a funeral home. He interviews\nthe arrival and decides to give her a rundown of the strange and terrifying\nhistory of the town. He tells her four supernatural and creepy asides about the\narea. The press gave this indie genre flick very high marks. Only a few\ncomplained that the end results were uneven, with several stories that weren\u2019t\nscary enough to give them the chills. However, almost everyone else called it\none of the best horror anthology films in recent years. They wrote that the\nstories featured were clever and that the practical effects and overall mood of\nthe piece was consistently entertaining. It stars Clancy Brown, Caitlin Custer,\nChristine Kilmer and Jacob Elordi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Once Upon a Time in Tombstone<\/em> \u2013 Most readers will be\nfamiliar with the town of Tombstone and the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral. This\nindependent film asserts that it will add a few details about the famous event\nand what occurred there. At least, that what the press synopsis promises. It\nclaims to deliver the true stories behind all the iconic people featured, including\npersonal stories of the Earp Brothers, Doc Holliday, Johnny Rings and the\nClanton Brothers. Unfortunately, that\u2019s all that is known about the movie at\npresent. It is premiering exclusively on DVD and there have been no reviews\nmade available. The one or two online notices that have appeared online so far\nhave not been complimentary, suggesting that the movie\u2019s low-budget undermines all\nthe flick\u2019s aspirations. The cast includes Paul Clayton, Jerry Chesser and\nJezibell Anat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The Summoning<\/em> \u2013 Those looking for some international\nhorror may want to give this title a try. It\u2019s a Thai feature that was\noriginally released in 2018 under the title Reside<\/em>. A psychic medium and\nhis acquaintances conduct a s\u00e9ance in a household where an entire family died.\nBad idea! It results in several spirits of the deceased mom, dad and child arriving\nand attempt to possess individuals. Desperate to save themselves, these mediums\nmust keep themselves alive, find out what really happened in the house and foil\nthe spirits. The film hasn\u2019t been seen by many in this part of the world and is\narriving exclusively on DVD. A review or two has appeared online and they have\ngenerally been positive, saying that the characters act dim-witted at times but\nthat the feature is atmospheric and scary. Ananda Everingham, Peerapol\nKijreunpiromsuk and Teerawat\nMulvilai headline the film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Test Pattern<\/em> \u2013 This independent drama follows a young\ninterracial couple enduring hardships brought upon them by others. Things get\neven worse for the pair when a violent sexual assault occurs. The man drives\nhis distressed partner across the city looking for a rape kit, encountering a\nseries of difficulties and prejudices along the way. Write-ups for the film\nwere almost uniformly excellent. One or two did believe that the movie could\nhave done more to develop the leads early on and give viewers a fuller picture\nof the story and characters. Still, almost everyone else called the film\nincredibly effective and important, stating that it did an excellent job of\ndisplaying the numerous racial inequalities in the US, in addition to showing problems\nwithin the health care system. It stars Brittany S. Hall, Will Brill, Gail Bean and Drew\nFuller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Violent Heart<\/em> \u2013 Shakespeare\u2019s Romeo and Juliet<\/em>\nappears to be the inspiration for this independent drama. After a childhood\ntrauma involving the murder of his sister, a young man still grieves over the\ndeath. Just out of school and working as a mechanic, he meets and falls for a\nyounger woman attending a local high school. The families of the main\nprotagonists don\u2019t like the idea of the relationship and the added conflict\nreveals new information about the killing many years earlier. Reaction towards\nthis feature was generally split, but it did earn a few more positive reviews\nthan negative ones. Almost half of reviewers said that the story gets\nincreasingly preposterous and thought it failed to pull them in. Slightly more\nsaid that while flawed, the performances were strong and that the movie was an\nimpressive directorial debut. The cast includes Jovan Adepo, Grace Van Patten,\nLukas Haas and Mary J. Blige.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A Werewolf in England<\/em> \u2013 This low-budget UK\nhorror\/comedy is a Victorian period piece about a parish representative who is\nassigned to escorting a murderer to a trail. The man charged in the slaying claims\nhe was actually attacked by a werewolf, but the official is unmoved by his\npleas. That all changes when a storm hits and they take refuge at a country\ninn. The pair and others staying there are attacked by a pack of hairy monsters.\nThere haven\u2019t been a lot of press reviews so far, but one genre critic called\nit a fun monster movie with plenty of laughs. Those who have written up the\nfilm online have a variety of opinions about it. Some called it an entertaining\nB-movie, while others complained that it was amateurish and ineffective. It\nfeatures Rory Wilton, James Swanton, Derek Nelson and Natalie Martins. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Blasts from the Past!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n There are some interesting older titles receiving high\ndefinition upgrades this week. Mill Creek are premiering Dave Chappelle\u2019s\nBlock Party<\/em> (2005) on Blu-ray. This documentary follows the comedian as he\nrounds up a group of locals from his hometown and buses them to Brooklyn, New\nYork to put on an elaborate show featuring himself and musicians like Kanye\nWest, the Fugees and Big Daddy Kane. Viewers see all that goes on behind the\nscenes in the creation of this sudden, improvised event. The movie was directed\nby Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind<\/em>, Mood Indigo<\/em>,\nMicrobe & Gasoline<\/em>) and the disc includes bonuses like a making-of\nand extended performances from all of the musical guests. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Criterion are releasing a Blu-ray of The Furies<\/em> (1950), a western melodrama with Barbara Stanwyck and Walter Huston about a ranch owner fighting with his daughter about the future of their land. Besides a digital restoration of the picture, the disc also includes a film historian commentary, an interview with another critic on the importance of the title, a 1967 television interview with the director, a rare on-camera interview from 1931 with star Huston and a 2008 talk with the performer\u2019s daughter. It also comes with a still gallery and a trailer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n You can also pick up a Blu-ray of Memories of Murder<\/em>\n(2003), the second film from Oscar-winning writer\/director Bong Joon Ho (The\nHost<\/em>, Snowpiercer<\/em>, Parasite<\/em>). The movie is a procedural cop\ndrama about two officers investigating a series of murders in a small Korean province.\nThis release arrives with a 4K digital restoration of the picture, two 2003\ncommentaries featuring the filmmaker with cast and crew, an interview with\ndirector Guillermo del Toro about the movie, a new interview with Bong Joon Ho\nabout the inspiration for the story, a making-of documentary, deleted scenes,\nan analysis on sound design in the movie, publicity materials. You\u2019ll even get\na student film that was made by the moviemaker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Paramount are focusing on comedy with their titles this\nweek. The studio is presenting the Cheech & Chong flick Still Smokin\u2019<\/em>\n(1983) on Blu-ray. This stoner comedy hasn\u2019t been listed on Amazon yet, but is up\nfor order on other sites. The varying information on different sources means\nthat there is a possible chance of a delay with the release of the feature, so you\nmay have to stay calm and chill for a while before it officially arrives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n They are also rereleasing individual Blu-rays of The\nNaked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!<\/em> (1988), The Naked Gun 2 1\/2:\nThe Smell of Fear<\/em> (1991) and Naked Gun 33 1\/3: The Final Insult<\/em>\n(1994). Based on the short-lived but hysterical TV series Police Squad!<\/em>\n(1982), the movies follow the adventures of a good-natured but clumsy police\ndetective out to stop crime in Los Angeles. These are no doubt the same versions\nthat were previously released by the studio. If you\u2019re looking for a good\nlaugh, the first title is a comedy classic and the follow-ups have a few\nchuckles as well. You can also find the original series on Blu-ray, which also\ncomes with the highest of recommendations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n And Warner Archives are putting out a massive selection of\nmade-to-order Blu-rays through their Warner Archive site (you can also pick\nthem up on Amazon). They have the Oscar-winning musical Annie Get Your Gun<\/em>\n(1950) and the Fred Astaire feature, Broadway Melody of 1940<\/em> (1940).\nThose looking for drama can purchase the Best Picture Winner and period drama, Chariots\nof Fire<\/em> (1981). Based on a true story, it follows two track athletes vying\nfor glory at the 1924 Olympics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Doctor X<\/em> (1932) is a horror picture about a New York\njournalist who attempts to track down a mad scientist and stop his \u201ccreation\u201d from\ncommitting murders across the city. The feature was directed by Michael Curtiz,\nwho would go on to helm classics like The Adventures of Robin Hood<\/em>, Casablanca<\/em>,\nMildred Pierce<\/em> and White Christmas<\/em>. Each Dawn I Die<\/em> (1939)\nis a hard-boiled crime drama with James Cagney and George Raft about an\ninnocent reporter who is wrongly arrested and jailed for murder. He eventually\nbecoming hardened in prison while friends try to fight for his release. Finally,\nyou can also pick up the Lana Turner drama Green Dolphin Street<\/em> (1947)\nand the Charles Laughton adventure, Mutiny on the Bounty<\/em> (1935).
