<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nTHE BEATLES: GET BACK \u2013 While this is technically a\n3-episode docuseries (that began streaming on Disney+ at the end of 2021), it\nis one of the week\u2019s most noteworthy releases. Oscar-winning filmmaker Peter\nJackson (The Lord of the Rings<\/em> series) has located and cleaned up hours\nupon hours of footage of The Beatles<\/em> shot by documentarians in 1969 and\n1970. It was captured for the film Let it Be<\/em> and showed the group\nrecording the album of the same name. Apparently, the resulting film from 1970\ndidn\u2019t display all that occurred over the session and this feature presents a\nmore accurate behind-the-scenes picture of the sessions. Reviews were excellent\nfor the project. A tiny number actually complained that it was too exhaustive\nand contained so much detail that the best material was almost lost. Everyone\nelse appreciated the dedication on display, saying that the series was expertly\nput together and presented George Harrison, John Lennon, Paul McCartney and\nRingo Starr in a new light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n BIGFOOT OR BUST \u2013 Low-budget B-movie enthusiasts may be\ninterested in this monster movie from Jim Wynorski (Chopping Mall, Munchie,\nGhoulies IV, The Return of the Swamp Thing, Cobragator<\/em>). It involves a\ngroup of celebrities who head out on a quest to a remote area in the hopes of\nfinding Bigfoot. They meet up with another group of time-traveling women who\nare also looking for the creature. Naturally, they discover and try to catch\nthe beast (one of them even falls for the hairy figure). There currently aren\u2019t\nmany reviews available for the movie, which has been described by some as\nintentionally bad. A couple notices have popped up online simply stating that\nthere isn\u2019t much of a story here, just a bunch of cheesy gags involving the\nbusty figures of lead characters. It features Melissa Brasselle, Becky LeBeau,\nLisa London, Gail Thackray and Christine Nguyen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n BLACK SITE \u2013 A CIA Agent runs an underground black site\nfacility holding the world\u2019s most dangerous criminals. One day, she receives\nword that the vicious killer who murdered her husband is being transferred\nover. After arriving, the lead grapples with feelings of revenge. However, the\npsychopath soon escapes his cell and begins moving through the prison,\nslaughtering everyone he encounters. The protagonist must square off against\nthe villain and deal with potential moles within her group who may have helped\nto free him. Critics generally slammed this action\/thriller. A small contingent\nliked the performers and thought they helped make up for its screenplay\ndeficiencies. However, the consensus was that the film was surprisingly bland\nand that the characters needed more development. It stars Michelle Monaghan,\nJason Clarke, Jai Courtney, Uli Latukefu and Lucy Barrett.<\/p>\n\n\n\n HUDA\u2019S SALON \u2013 A salon doesn\u2019t necessarily seem like a place\nto set a tense thriller, but this foreign-language feature attempts to prove\notherwise. A Palestinian woman in the West Bank goes with her newborn child to\nvisit her hairdresser. The old friends talk and the lead complains about her\nhusband, sharing life details. At the end of the appointment, the salon\nemployee threatens to reveal the information and blackmails the woman into spying\nfor the Israel Secret Service. Apparently, the film is based on a true story,\nearned solid notices and won awards at various film festivals over the past\nyear. A few did complain that the movie was too talky and didn\u2019t deliver the\nrequired thrills. However, most thought it had some tense moments and presented\nan unnerving and complicated story about an individual being forced to do\nthings against their will in order to survive. Maisa Abd Elhadi, Ali Suliman\nand Samer Bisharat headline the film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n MONDOCANE – This Italian science-fiction picture is set in a\ndystopian world where citizens will do whatever it takes in order to persevere.\nThe government locks down a town and places barbed wire around it. This causes\ntwo thirteen-year-old orphans and best friends to try and get recruited by one\nof the vicious gangs fighting for control of the territory. Naturally, it puts\ntheir lives in danger and potentially threatens to pit them against each other.\nThis foreign-language effort earned slightly more positive write-ups than\nnegative ones. A number of reviews thought it borrowed too heavily from movies\nlike Mad Max<\/em> and The Hunger Games<\/em> without offering anything new\nor original. Slightly more commented that while the story was familiar, the\nacting was above-average and the characters were memorable. It features Dennis\nProtopapa, Giuliano Soprano, Alessandro Borghi and Barbara Ronchi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n MONTANA STORY \u2013 Two estranged siblings return to the ranch\nof their father after learning that he will soon pass away from a deadly illness.\nIt is revealed that horrible events occurred there years earlier, leaving one\nof the man\u2019s offspring feeling angry and the other deeply guilt-ridden. As the\npair take care of the will and attempt to resolve what to do with the property,\none of them becomes determined to prevent a horse from being put down. The\npress was very moved by this independent drama. There was a small group who\ncritiqued the film for being slow-moving, overly ponderous and ultimately\ntiresome. Still, the vast majority called it a beautifully shot and deeply felt\npersonal family drama that featured impressive and moving work by its leads.\nHaley Lu Richardson, Owen Teague, Gilbert Owour, Kimberly Guerrero and Eugene\nBrave Rock headline the picture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n POMPO THE CINEPHILE \u2013 Those with an appreciation of Japanese\nanimated fare may enjoy this effort. It\u2019s a comedy about a successful movie\nproducer with grand designs to move from making cheesy action movies to\naward-winning dramas. Her young assistant gets a shock after she not only tells\nhim that she has written a powerful script, but that he will be directing the\nmovie. The shy filmmaker is thrown into the middle of a troubled production\nwith screenplay issues and egotistical stars. Will his new career implode or\nwill he manage to cut together an effective drama? So far, those in this part\nof the world who have seen the movie have appreciated it. Most write that while\nit\u2019s not a classic, it is a fun comedy with bright visuals that accurately\ndetails how trying and difficult it can be to make a movie and keep producers,\ncast and the crew happy. The disc contains the original Japanese language track\nwith English subtitles and an English-language dub. <\/p>\n\n\n\n THE TWIN \u2013 After a tragic accident causes the death of one\nof their twin boys, a husband and wife leave the country with their surviving\nyoungster and decide to start fresh in Finland. While the big move to the\nbeautiful Scandinavian countryside initially allows the family a chance to\nheal, things turn decidedly grimmer after their child begins acting strangely.\nHe announces that he has been possessed by his deceased twin, who wants answers\nabout what really happened to him. Unfortunately, critics were unimpressed by\nthis horror picture. A small number did suggest that the film was atmospheric and\nwould send a few chills down the spine. However, the majority suggested that\nthe script didn\u2019t take advantage of the interesting concept and thought it was\na pastiche of several other, more effective genre pictures. It stars Teresa\nPalmer, Steven Cree, Barbara Marten, Tristan Ruggeri and Taneli Mustonen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n WOLF HOUND \u2013 During World War II, there was a special Nazi\nair unit that would down, repair and fly enemy aircraft in order to sneak up\nand destroy targets. This drama is \u201cinspired by\u201d a true story about an American\npilot who was fired upon by this German outfit. After crashing behind enemy\nlines, he must evade capture, fight back against the squadron who took him down\nand stop a plot that could alter the outcome of the war. Reviews for this\npicture were uniformly bad. Just about everyone said that the aerial battle\nfootage was excellent and thrilling to watch. And that was all\u2026 they noted that\neverything else about the picture was terrible, citing bad dialogue and an\nincreasingly ridiculous story. Apparently, it exaggerates so many elements that\nthe final film is impossible to take seriously. The cast includes James Maslow,\nTrevor Donovan, John Turk and Michael Wayne Foster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n BLASTS FROM THE PAST!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Plenty of interesting older features will be receiving high-definition\nupgrades this week. Terror Circus<\/em> (1973) is arriving on Blu-ray courtesy\nof Code Red. It\u2019s a horror movie about a group of showgirls driving to Las\nVegas. When their vehicle breaks down, they are kidnapped by a maniac planning\nan elaborate circus act. The movie has been remastered from the original camera\nnegative and comes with numerous interviews with crew members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Criterion is putting out a much-heralded title with the\nboxing drama, Raging Bull<\/em> (1980). Directed by Martin Scorsese (Taxi\nDriver, Goodfellas, The Departed, The Irishman<\/em>), the movie tells the story\nof real-life pugilist Jake LaMotta, whose violent temper led to great success\nin the ring but destroyed all of his personal relationships. The movie won star\nRobert De Niro an Academy Award for Best Actor and also earned another Oscar\nfor Best Editing. You can pick up the film in a 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray combo\npack or purchase it as a Blu-ray only release. Extras include critic video\nessays on the movie, three audio commentaries featuring Scorsese, as well as\nthe cast and crew, a making including most who were involved in the movie,\nshort programs, archival interview and much more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The distributor is also putting out the rom-com Summertime<\/em>\n(1955) from director David Lean (The Bridge of the River Kwai, Lawrence of\nArabia, Doctor Zhivago<\/em>). It stars Katharine Hepburn as an American who\ntravels to Italy searching for love. Unfortunately, she falls for a married\nman. The Blu-ray includes a new 4K restoration of the movie, as well as a film\nhistorian interview, a 1963 discussion with director Lean, audio excerpts with\nthe cinematographer and plenty more bonuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Kino has a very amusing Blu-ray coming your way. It\u2019s a\nSpecial Edition of the action flick, Steele Justice<\/em> (1987). Made at the\nheight of the patriotic Rambo<\/em> movie craze, this story features Martin\nKove (The Karate Kid, Rambo: First Blood Part II, Cobra Kai<\/em>) as a\nVietNam veteran struggling to adapt to life after the war. When his war buddy\nis killed by drug dealers, the protagonist decides to find out who is\nresponsible and enact revenge. If memory serves, his movie is over-the-top and\nabsurdly ridiculous in just about every way imaginable. There are amusing\nmoments early on as the drunken, sorry hero is taken in and cleaned up by the\nvictim\u2019s family, as well as some truly crazy action scenes including a public\nand very cartoonish gunfight that occurs in the middle of a music video shoot.\nIt\u2019s one of those so-cheesy-it\u2019s-fun kind of action titles. The Blu-ray\nfeatures a new audio commentary featuring Kove and the film\u2019s director, as well\nas a trailer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mill Creek is debuting the comedy BASEketball<\/em> (1998)\non Blu-ray. This is a guilty-pleasure featuring South Park<\/em> creators Matt\nStone and Trey Parker as a pair of buddies who essentially create a professional\nsports league around the basketball game H-O-R-S-E. It was directed by David\nZucker (Airplane!, Top Secret!<\/em>) and while the movie wasn\u2019t well-received\nduring its original release, this reviewer recalls it being an amusing\ncollection of zany gags that should raise a smile among anyone who appreciates\nexaggerated and silly comedies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The distributor is also making Safe Men<\/em> (1998)\navailable on Blu-ray. It\u2019s about two aspiring singers who are mistaken for safe\ncrackers and forced to take part in a heist. The movie stars Sam Rockwell,\nSteve Zahn, Michael Learner, Mark Ruffalo and Paul Giamatti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Paramount is delivering a number of Blu-rays debuts as well.\nYou can pick up the animated comedy Bebe\u2019s Kids<\/em> (1992) about a man\nrecounting a terrible first date at an amusement park with the woman of his\ndreams. The main problem for the hero is that the lady has three very badly\nbehaved children to contend with. You can also pick up the Samuel L.\nJackson\/Ben Affleck drama, Changing Lanes<\/em> (2002) about a driving altercation\nthat leads to an escalating conflict between the two drivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Domestic Disturbance<\/em> (2001) is a fun little thriller\nabout an evil stepfather featuring John Travolta and Vince Vaughn, along with a\nmemorable supporting turn from Steve Buscemi. You can also pick up the Chris\nRock comedy Down to Earth<\/em> (2001), in which he plays a deceased black\ncomedian who returns to Earth in the body of a white businessman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n One of the best science-fiction comedies of the past 25\nyears is Galaxy Quest<\/em> (1999) and this picture is being rereleased on\nBlu-ray by Paramount. It involves the crew of a Star Trek<\/em>-esque\ntelevision show who end up actually being sent into the far reaches of space to\nfight a reptilian warlord. The cast includes Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan\nRickman, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell and Daryl Mitchell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In addition, Last Holiday<\/em> (2006) with Queen Latifah\nand LL Cool J is arriving on Blu-ray, along with the Steve Martin drama, Leap\nof Faith<\/em> (1992), about a conman who witnesses a real miracle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And the studio is presenting Indiana Jones and the Temple\nof Doom<\/em> (1984) as a standalone 4K Ultra HD only Steelbook release. You must\nhave a 4K Ultra HD player to watch the disc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Rough Cut<\/em> (1980) is arriving on Blu-ray through the Paramount Presents line. This is an unusual selection, as it isn\u2019t as well-known as other classic titles in the series, but the studio has chosen to include it anyway. The comedy stars Burt Reynolds as a diamond thief attempting to pull off one big final heist. Lesley Anne-Down plays his love interest and David Niven is the Scotland Yard investigator determined to stop him. The film has been remastered for its Blu-ray debut and arrives with a featurette with critic Leonard Maltin delivering facts about the production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Shout! Factory is unveiling the Jane Fonda and Lindsay Lohan\ncomedy\/drama Georgia Rule<\/em> (2007) on Blu-ray. The disc comes with an\narchived director commentary, a making-of featurette, deleted scenes (with\ncommentary), on-set footage, a gag reel and a trailer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And again, this is a TV release, but one that I couldn\u2019t\nhelp but mention. You can now pick up The Six Million Dollar Man<\/em>: The\nComplete Series on Blu-ray from Shout! Factory. Lee Majors plays a test pilot\nwho ends up in a deadly explosion, only to be transformed into a technically\nadvanced bionic man. The protagonist ends up participating in secret missions\nand, in later seasons, squares off against Bigfoot. The discs come with loads\nof extras, including TV-expert commentaries, as well as crossover episodes from\nThe Bionic Woman<\/em> and the six\u2026 Six Million Dollar Man<\/em> TV-movies\nthat followed the series over the following two decades. There\u2019s even an\ninterview with actor Bryan Cranston in which he describes his guest appearances\non a couple of episodes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And finally, Warner Archive are making The Frisco Kid<\/em> (1979) available as a made-to-order Blu-ray on the Amazon website. Pictured above and to the life, this western\/comedy stars Gene Wilder as a Polish rabbi. He gets into all sorts of trouble and becomes an outlaw while passing through the Old West on his way to San Francisco. A young Harrison Ford co-stars in the film as the lead\u2019s sidekick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n YOU KNOW, FOR KIDS!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Here are a couple of releases that might appeal to kids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Pokemon Journeys: The Series<\/em>: Season 23 (Warner Bros.)
