The pair try to get people to believe them, but realize their best\nbet is trying to stop the prehistoric beast themselves. Reaction to the\nindependent comedy was very good. About one-quarter of reviewers complained\nthat the movie relied on juvenile jokes and was overextended, tiring them out.\nStill, the majority wrote that the film delivered plenty of enjoyable silliness\nand spoofed elements of dinosaur movies extremely well. They thought it would\nleave most viewers with a big smile on their face. It stars Mike Capes, Sean\nAstin, Sandy Martin, David Shackelford, Caitlin McHugh and Richard Riehle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After 60-years as a famous performer and activist,\nthe figure goes over her entire life and career. She shares her struggles with\nanxiety, her relationship with Bob Dylan, as well as other private details.\nBaez opens up about everything and tries to summarize her life\u2019s work,\nsuccesses and failings. The press gave this picture very high marks. One or two\nvoices thought that the film was a very general overview that was too in awe of\nits subject to delve into more complicated aspects of her life. But all others\ncalled it an excellent tribute to an incredible performer that provided a\nclearer look into her thoughts, as well as the incredible things she managed to\naccomplish. The film mixes new interview material featuring Beaz with archival\nfootage of her life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nJUROR #2 \u2013 The latest directorial effort from Clint Eastwood\nis this drama about a married man and soon-to-be father who is recruited to\nserve as a juror in a high-profile murder trial. After the proceedings begin,\nhe realizes that he actually may have been involved. The lead struggles with\nwhat to do, and starts to wonder if he should say nothing or attempt to sway\njurors to free the individual being charged. This picture was very well\nreceived by reviewers. A tiny number commented that some of the plot twists and\nfinale were hard to believe and ruined the end product. Everyone else thought\nthat while the script occasionally stretched credibility, it dealt with\ninteresting themes. They also noted that the cast were phenomenal and that the\nmovie was tense and interesting throughout. The cast includes Nicholas Hoult,\nToni Collette, J.K. Simmons, Kiefer Sutherland, Zoey Deutch, Adrienna C. Moore\nand Leslie Bibb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nOH, CANADA \u2013 A documentary crew contacts an aging filmmaker\nto recount his life. He shares his story as a young American man in the late\n1960s, fleeing from the draft, leaving his home state and making a new\nbeginning in Canada. As he begins sharing personal secrets, the crew wonder if\nelements of his film work are fusing together with the real tale and attempt to\ndiscern truth from fantasy. Figures from his past reappear to confirm or deny\nhis story. This independent drama from Paul Schrader (Affliction, Auto\nFocus, First Reformed<\/em>) earned more positive notices than negative ones.\nRoughly one-third of write-ups wrote that the story switched its focus at a\nlate point, and that this change was jarring and took them out of the drama.\nHowever, most found the occasionally contradictory memories and approach to\ndepicting them fascinating and called the movie a personal, ambitious and\nengaging effort about more than one would initially think. Richard Gere, Uma\nThurman, Jacob Elordi, Victoria Hill and Michael Imperioli headline the feature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n THE PRICE OF DEATH \u2013 This independent western produced in\nSpain tells the tale of a gambler-turned-bounty-hunter. He is assigned with\ntransporting a wanted fugitive and thief to his hanging in a town a great\ndistance away. The trip seems normal until a second ruthless murderer and his\ngang appear, looking to kidnap the crook and have him show them the location of\nhis stolen loot. The protagonist and his captive end up fighting for survival\nin a harsh and unforgiving mountain pass. Despite being filmed in Spain, the\nmovie is English-language. Right now, no critics have seen the picture, so\nthere are currently no reviews for it. The cast includes Chrispian Belfrage,\nAaron Stielstra, Ken Lucky, Danny Garcia and Al Mathews (whom the press notes\nstate appeared in the 1986 film Aliens <\/em>and passed away after his part\nwas filmed).<\/p>\n\n\n\n A REAL PAIN \u2013 Two cousins with wildly divergent\npersonalities reunite in Warsaw, Poland on a tour visiting Holocaust sites and\nthe home of their recently deceased grandmother. One is tightly wound and\nanxiety-prone, while the other is a go-with-the-flow type with a big\npersonality. The more outgoing one begins to take control of the group\u2019s trip,\nwhich raises the ire of his cousin. As the journey continues, more is revealed\nabout the pair\u2019s relationship and their personal issues. This comedy\/drama\nreceived a great deal of raves and has been nominated for two Academy Awards\n(for Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor). One or two found some\nof the humor forced and were not moved by the story. But almost everyone else\ncommented that the approach was original and writing sharp, the leads\nphenomenal, and noted that the movie depicted a troubled relationship between\nfamily members in a darkly funny yet relatable way. It stars Jesse Eisenberg,\nKieran Culkin, Will Sharpe, Kurt Egyiawan and Jennifer Grey (from the 1980s hit\nDirty Dancing<\/em>). <\/p>\n\n\n\n RILEY \u2013 A high school senior and football star, who has been\nworking hard to hide the fact that he is gay, decides to finally come out to\nhis peers and the school just before the end of the school year. As the film\nprogresses, he attempts to find himself and, a little confused, tries various\nways to meet people and explore his sexuality. The film captures this\ntumultuous period as the lead also faces the judgment of others. This drama did\nwell with reviewers who saw it, and won awards at independent film festivals\nover the past couple of years. The notices mention that the coming-of-age\nfeature sensitively handles its subject matter and feels very authentic. They\nnoted that audiences would definitely feel for the protagonist and his\nchallenges. For the time being, this is a DVD-only release. It features Jake\nHolley and Colin McCalla.<\/p>\n\n\n\n V\/H\/S\/ BEYOND \u2013 The latest edition of this long-running,\nindependent found-footage horror series introduces viewers to five new shorts\nand a wraparound involving a UFO investigation. Truth be told, all of the\nsegments involve otherworldly monsters and beings doing their worst to hapless\nindividuals (who happen to be holding cameras). This picture debuted on the\nShudder streaming site and is now debuting on disc. The critical reception for\nthe movie was quite positive. A small number stated that while the creatures\nand subject matter featured in the movie wasn\u2019t routine, the twists and stories\ndid feel familiar and the tales were unmemorable. Still, everyone else thought\nthis sequel was better-than-anticipated and maximized its potential to the\nfullest extent, delivering plenty of chilling moments and excellent special\neffects. The cast includes Trevor Dow, Mitch Horowitz, Thom Hallum, James C.\nBurns, Jolena Andersen and Tyler Andrews.<\/p>\n\n\n\n WEREWOLVES \u2013 This horror action movie is set in a world\nwhere, one night a year, a large portion of the population turn into vicious,\nrampaging werewolves. 12 months after the first outbreak scientists try to cure\nthe condition, but fail as the supermoon event occurs again. A well-armed man\ndoes his best to protect those he loves from being torn to pieces. Response to\nthis chiller was very mixed, evenly splitting reviewers. Half thought that\nwhile the premise was entertainingly silly, the deadly serious tone didn\u2019t work\nand the final product lacked cleverness and felt like a dull and repetitive\nknock-off of The Purge<\/em> series. The same number found themselves\nchuckling at the campiness on display, liked the werewolf transformations and\nthought the picture would entertain horror enthusiasts. Frank Grillo, Katrina\nLaw, Ilfenesh Hadera, James Michael Cummings, Lou Diamond Phillips and Kamdynn\nGary headline the movie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n WICKED \u2013 Based on The Wizard of Oz<\/em>, the 2003 hit\nmusical gets an elaborate film adaptation (or, at least, the first half of the\nshow does) in this massive box office smash. Focused on Elphaba Thorpe, who\nlater becomes the Wicked Witch of the West, viewers see the outsider escort her\nsister to university and unexpectedly get enrolled in the school by the Dean.\nShe suffers nasty treatment because of her green skin and uncovers a dark\nconspiracy in the process. The film was well-liked and earned ten Academy Award\nnominations (including Best Picture). A handful of critics thought that the\nmovie was unnecessarily padded-out and draggy as a result. However, the vast\nmajority called the film visually spectacular and a great adaptation of the\nstage show. They thought the cast were exceptional and that audiences would\nadore the feature. The movie is available in a 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray set, a\n4k Ultra HD and Blu-ray Walmart exclusive Steelbook and standalone Blu-ray. It\nstars Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey,\nEthan Slater and Bowen Yang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n BLASTS FROM THE PAST!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n If you\u2019re looking for more, you can find some great older\ntitles receiving big upgrades. The recent horror hit Terrifier<\/em> (2024)\ncame out only a few weeks ago, but is now being given a \u201cLimited Edition\u201d\nCollector\u2019s Box Set 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray. This Amazon exclusive comes with\nall the bells and whistles of previous versions, but also soap (I guess it\nmakes sense if you\u2019ve seen the movie), a mini-mask, a barf bag, pin, polaroid\nphoto reproductions, a holiday ornament and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Criterion is delivering the fantastic Adam Sandler film Punch-Drunk\nLove<\/em> (2002) in a 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray set. It\u2019s a hard one to sum up,\nbut the story follows a lonely, troubled novelty supplier with a hot temper. In\nbetween efforts to buy as much pudding as he can from the supermarket, he finds\nhimself out of his comfort zone when he falls for an eccentric English woman.\nThis picture was previously released by Sony Pictures in 4K, but you had to\npurchase a very expensive box with multiple titles to get it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Besides the upgraded picture quality, extras in this package\ninclude a piece on stars Sandler and Emily Watson, a discussion with composer\nJon Brion, footage from the scoring sessions, a talk with the artwork used in\nthe movie, as well as additional pieces that weren\u2019t as prominently featured.\nThere is also footage from the Cannes premiere, an interview with the real man\nwho inspired the pudding subplot, a set of \u201cscopitones\u201d with footage from the\nmovie, deleted scenes, a hilarious \u201cMattress Man\u201d commercial, trailers, and a\nbooklet with essays on the film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Monster from the Ocean Floor<\/em> (1954) is a drive-in\nB-movie about a mutant creature that rises from the ocean and attacks an\nAmerican vacationing in Mexico. This is a \u201cSpecial Edition\u201d Blu-ray from Film\nMasters that boasts a 4K restoration from the original camera negative, a film\nexpert commentary, an interview with a historian about special effects man Bob\nBaker. There is also an archival interview with producer Roger Corman, a\ntrailer, a recut trailer, a slideshow of photos and illustrated booklet with\nessays on the movie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Kino is presenting a 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray release of The\nSacrifice<\/em> (1986). This is a Russian effort from Andrei Tarkovsky (Solaris,\nStalker) about a family celebrating a birthday. They discover that World War\nIII has broken out. The patriarch of the family tries to make a deal with\nspiritual forces, promises to give up everything he values in life in order to\nsave his child and house. It comes with a film historian commentary, an\ninterview, theatrical trailers; and the documentary Directed by Andrei\nTarkovsky<\/em> (1988).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Spaghetti Western Classics<\/em> is a two-disc, 4K Ultra HD\nset also arriving from Kino. It contains Kill Them All and Come Back Alone<\/em>\n(1968) and The Hellbenders<\/em> (1967). The picture upgrades are from 2020\nStudio Canal SDR masters. There are two cuts of the first title and film\nhistorian commentaries on both films, as well as trailers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Ken Russell film Whore<\/em> (1991) is also arriving on\nBlu-ray. Teresa Russell plays a Los Angeles based prostitute dealing with\nhorrific challenges in her profession. It comes with a critic commentary\ntrack, an interview with the screenwriter, a video comparison of alternate\nversions and a trailer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Joan Jett documentary Bad Reputation<\/em> (2018) is\ngetting a Blu-ray rerelease from Magnolia Pictures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Rising Sun Media is presenting a Blu-ray of the Hungarian\nWorld War II movie, The Shepherd<\/em> (2019), which follows an antisocial\nfarmer who finds a wounded Jewish woman in a nearby forest and attempts to hide\nher and nurse her back to health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Shout! Factory is delivering the Blu-ray set, A Chinese\nOdyssey: Parts 1 & 2<\/em>. Also known as A Chinese Odyssey: Part One \u2013\nPandora\u2019s Box<\/em> and A Chinese Odyssey: Part 2 \u2013 Cinderella<\/em>, both\nperiod\/fantasy movies were released the same year and star Stephen Chow as an\noutlaw who learns he is the reincarnation of a legendary hero. He attempts to\nchange his ways and take on various supernatural villains. Bonuses include an\ninterview with a Chow authority, a talk with a Hong Kong movie expert, a film\nhistorian audio commentary on both features, two interviews with the director,\na featurette on these titles as cult films, an interview with the\ncinematographer, publicity materials and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sick<\/em> (2022) is also getting a 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray\ncombo release. Set during COVID-19, it\u2019s about two friends who quarantine at a\nremote family estate and become threatened by strange messages. The film is\nbeing given a 4K presentation from the original elements and includes a cast\ncommentary, a director and cinematographer commentary and a film critic\ncommentary. New cast and crew interviews are also included with this release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Uncork\u2019d Entertainment is presenting a Blu-ray of the\nindependent horror film The Dinner Party<\/em> (2020), which follows a young\nwriter and his wife being invited to a lavish celebration with potential\ninvestors in the lead\u2019s new play. The couple soon find that things are not as\nthey seem. A behind-the-scenes featurette and trailers are listed as extras on\nthe disc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If you enjoy the work of the Marx Brothers, you\u2019ll be happy\nto know that a \u201cRestored Edition\u201d Blu-ray set called The Marx Brothers\nSilver Screen Collection<\/em> is now available for purchase from Universal\nPictures. It comes with the comedy classics The Cocoanuts<\/em> (1929), Animal\nCrackers<\/em> (1930), Monkey Business<\/em> (1931), Horse Feathers<\/em>\n(1932) and Duck Soup<\/em> (1933). Hopefully, the \u201crestored\u201d note means the\npicture quality has been upgraded. The original set included a feature-length\noverview of the career of the entertainers and a few archived interviews as\nwell, so one assumes they\u2019re here as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Finally, Warner Bros. is making a Walmart exclusive \u201cLimited\nEdition\u201d 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray Steelbook available of the Wesley Snipes\nMarvel action picture Blade<\/em> (1998). This fun flick introduced the\nvampire superhero to audiences. Besides the sharper image, it comes with a cast\nand crew audio commentary, numerous featurettes on the production and a\ntrailer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Shining<\/em> (1980) is also receiving a Walmart\nexclusive 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray Steelbook. Based on the Stephen King novel,\nJack Nicholson stars as a writer who slowly loses his mind while taking care of\na Colorado resort over the winter. This means big trouble for his family who\nare trapped with him. Besides seeing the Stanley Kubrick classic with a\nbetter-than-ever image quality, this release has a commentary by a film\nhistorian and Steadicam inventor\/operator Garrett Brown. Vivian Kubrick\u2019s\nmaking-of documentary is featured with her commentary.
