Welcome to another look at highlights arriving on 4K Ultra\nHD, Blu-ray and DVD. There aren\u2019t many new releases in this edition, but a few\nare notable, and there are a ton of older releases receiving major upgrades.\nSo, if you can\u2019t make it out to the movies this week, be sure to give one of\nthese titles a try!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BIG NEW RELEASES!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

BLUE MOON \u2013 This first release was scheduled for this week, but the listing keeps changing so as of right now its arrival isn\u2019t guaranteed. The film\u2019s star was just nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor and the picture also earned a Best Original Screenplay nod. If it is pushed back a bit(which, honestly, is likely), it may be to further promote the title. The movie is an autobiographical drama based on letters written by a young actress. The notes focus on Lorenz Hart, an alcoholic songwriter who visits his ex-writing partner Richard Rogers during the opening night of his friend\u2019s new Broadway musical, Oklahoma!<\/em> Over the course of the evening, Hart tries to repair relationships, but winds up causing even more trouble for himself. The movie earned excellent notices. A small number were frustrated by the film being set in a single location and stated that it was nothing more than talking heads. Everyone else thought the feature was sharply written, beautifully acted and effectively showed a brilliant but self-destructive man falling apart while those around him enjoyed success. It stars Ethan Hawke, Margaret Qualley, Bobby Cannavale and Andrew Scott.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

THE HOUSE FROM\u2026 – We\u2019ve all seen iconic TV shows and hit\nmovies that feature notable houses. Some of these sites are from studio\nbacklots, but several establishing shots and locations are real places on\nactual streets. Can you imagine what it might be like to live in one of these\nfamous residences? This documentary interviews some of the people who actually\nreside in the houses featured in titles like Full House, The Goonies, Home\nAlone <\/em>and Halloween<\/em>. Most of those interviewed share the good and\nthe bad about living in a place with pop culture history and whether they take\nany pride in it or preserving the lots. Most notices for the picture have been\ngood. While reviewers commented that this isn\u2019t the deepest of documentaries\nand is, at times, a little too upbeat, they still admitted that the picture was\nfun, offering some good stories and a bit of insight about how these places\nhave become landmarks. The feature is narrated by Jason Lee.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

HUNG UP ON A DREAM: THE ZOMBIES \u2013 The British psychedelic\nrock band The Zombies<\/em> are the subject of this documentary. They\u2019ve been\naround for 60 years now, with songs like, \u201dShe\u2019s Not There,\u201d \u201cFriends of Mine,\u201d\nand \u201cTime of the Season\u201d having made a lasting impression on listeners. In\nfact, many music aficionados consider their 1968 album Odessey and Oracle<\/em>\nto be among the best of its era. This feature tells the story of their career,\neventual breakup, solo albums, as well as their recent induction into the Rock\nand Roll Hall of Fame. The members go over the ups and downs of their careers\nand note their influence in music. Almost every critic who saw the picture\nenjoyed it. One mentioned that their story was presented in too straightforward\na manner and that it could have been told in a more dynamic manner. All others\nliked the band members and thought they told fascinating stories about the\ntroubles they experienced, while still ultimately keeping a positive outlook\nabout what they accomplished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

KILL THE JOCKEY \u2013 This multinational, Spanish-language\nfeature follows a pair of horse jockeys. Both are backed by a powerful mobster\nand one struggles with substance abuse issues. When his actions accidentally\ncause the death of their dangerous backer\u2019s prized race horse, the frightened\nathlete goes on the run. The other jockey travels internationally to track down\nher friend and bring him to safety before the gangster\u2019s thugs murder him for\nthe unintentional death. The press generally liked this dark comedy\/thriller. A\nfew couldn\u2019t get on the movie\u2019s wavelength, suggesting the story rambled along\nbefore delivering a final, heavy-handed lesson. But the majority were wowed by\nthe two leads. They also enjoyed the quirky humor and surreal elements, calling\nthe film eccentric but strangely compelling. It features Nahuel P\u00e9rez\nBiscayart, \u00darsula Corber\u00f3 and Daniel Gim\u00e9nez Cacho.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

A LITTLE PRAYER \u2013 A deeply religious family from the southern United States runs into personal strife in this drama. A dad runs a metal factory with his adult, married son. One day, the parent discovers that his offspring is having an affair with a co-worker. The father grapples with how to deal with the situation, in particular what to say to his daughter-in-law, whom he greatly likes and respects. When the extended family gathers for a celebration, this and other issues within the group come to light. Despite the title and themes, this independent drama is not a faith-based film. Overall, critics rated it highly. One or two thought that the pacing was slow and found it overly melodramatic and a bit old-fashioned by today\u2019s standards. But all others commented that the performances were remarkable, the writing and interactions between characters honest and believable, and the overall effect surprisingly engaging. The cast includes David Strathairn, Jane Levy, Celia Weston, Will Pullen and Anna Camp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

NO SLEEP TILL \u2013 This independent drama is set in a coastal\nFlorida town. When a hurricane warning arrives, most board up their homes and\nevacuate the area. However, a small group of individuals stay behind. Two of\nthese people want to pursue their dream job and decide they can use the event\nas a way to do so. As this occurs, a storm chaser decides to use the hurricane\nas an opportunity to show off his skills. A teenage delivery boy also tries to\nendure the hurricane for his own personal reasons. Almost all of those who saw\nthis unique take on the disaster film reacted positively. One or two didn\u2019t\nthink the story came together as effectively as it could have, particularly\nduring the final act. But the consensus was that the picture was stylish and\nincluded interesting characters attempting to hide their fears and insecurities\nas devastation approaches. Jordan Coley, Xavier Brown, Brynne Hofbauer and\nTaylor Benton headline the picture.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

THE THING WITH FEATHERS \u2013 After his wife dies unexpectedly,\na single father is forced to raise two children on his own. He is overwhelmed\nby the responsibility, and begins to see a strange houseguest he calls Crow,\nwho haunts and torments him from the shadows. Naturally, it becomes clear that\nthe dad is experiencing some sort of psychological breakdown. But as things\nspiral out of control, the lead begins to regroup and find a way to deal with\nhis grief. This British drama split the North American press. Almost half\ndescribed the movie as challenging but ultimately rewarding, laying bare the\ntrials of the character in an original way and benefitting from a charismatic\nlead performance. The same number and a few more found the picture to be a\nchore and didn\u2019t find the threatening crow creature to be a compelling addition\nto the drama. The movie stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Richard Boxall, Henry\nBoxall, Eric Lampaert and the voice of David Thewlis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

TRIFOLE \u2013 After learning that her truffle-hunting\ngrandfather is not only ill, but about to be evicted from his land, his\ngranddaughter decides to visit and take up the practice. Not only that, but she\nbecomes determined to locate the largest truffle in the world, which she\nbelieves will solve all of the family patriarch\u2019s financial problems. This\nItalian, foreign-language feature was generally well-received by critics. About\none-quarter of them complained that after an engaging first half, the picture\u2019s\nstory became muddled and that it didn\u2019t deliver a powerful or satisfying\nresolution. Still, more found that the strange tangents the movie ultimately\nwent on made it unpredictable and called the drama impressively shot and\ngripping to watch. The cast includes Ydalie Turk, Umberto Orsini, Margherita\nBuy and Enzo Iacchetti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BLASTS FROM THE PAST!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

If no new titles strike your fancy, have no fear, because there are a ton of older films coming out with impressive new upgrades. Radiance Film is delivering a \u201cLimited Edition\u201d Blu-ray of the Japanese period crime picture, Blood of Revenge<\/em> (1965). The tale follows a low-ranking employee of a construction company who rises through the ranks when discord occurs.\u00a0 Of course, he faces great danger as yakuza elements within the company make their presence known.\u00a0 The movie has been transferred in high definition by Toei Company, Ltd. for this release, and arrives with a visual essay on the feature, along with a short film from 1943 with similarities to this picture.\u00a0 The disc\u2019s booklet contains an archival review of the movie. Click on this link to read a detailed review of this new release. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Illustrious Corpses<\/em> (1976) is a famous Italian\/French feature from Francesco Rosi (The Moment of Truth, The Mattei Affair<\/em>) about a detective looking into the murders of several court judges. He\u2019s assigned by superiors to find the madman responsible, but ultimately uncovers an elaborate plot in the process. The movie features a 4K restoration using two first generation reversal film elements. It arrives with a commentary from filmmaker and movie historian Alex Cox, an archival interview with director Rosi, another 1976 discussion featuring Rosi and star Lino Ventura. There is also a featurette with a professor who discusses the source material and real story elements that influenced the final product. A trailer and gallery are also included, as well as a booklet with more writing on the picture. You can read a full review of the disc by clicking on this link.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arrow Video is putting out a 4K Ultra HD \u201cSpecial Edition\u201d\nof the techno-thriller Blackhat <\/em>(2015). It initially came out as a\n\u201cLimited Edition\u201d a few years ago with three different cuts of the film, but\nthat went out-of-print. This Chris Hemsworth effort was a bit of a flop during\nits original release, but is a stronger movie than many gave it credit for.\nThis release contains the theatrical version and international cut. Alas, it\ndoesn\u2019t appear to contain the director\u2019s cut, which is likely the best of the\nthree versions available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

One new title from the distributor is the cult dark comedy Cheap\nThrills<\/em> (2013), which is arriving as a \u201cLimited Edition\u201d Blu-ray. It\u2019s\nabout an average family man with a new baby who loses his job. He and a friend\nwho is also broke meet a wealthy couple who offer them cash if they take on\nincreasingly bizarre dares. The disc features a number of bonuses, including a\ncommentary with the director and star Pat Healy, a new commentary with a film\nhistorian, a new interview with the director and the producer, new discussions\nwith cast members, the movie\u2019s screenwriters, and the make-up effects man.\nAdditionally, there is a lengthy making-of, footage from a screening at the\n2013 Fantastic Film Festival, and publicity materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Reveries Trilogy<\/em> Blu-ray will be arriving from\nCartuna. This is a series of independently shot features that were made between\n2018 and 2025 by comedians Anthony Oberbeck and Matt Barats. The lengths of the\nthree titles vary from 45 to 80 minutes. The disc contains commentary tracks,\nan original short film, as well as other extras.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cinematographe is a great new company who puts out cult\ntitles in conjunction with Vinegar Syndrome. This week, three of their products\nare getting wide releases everywhere. The first is a \u201cStandard Edition\u201d Blu-ray\nof the crime thriller Gang Related<\/em> (1997), starring Tupac Shakur and Jim\nBelushi. The contents of the disc should be similar to the \u201cLimited Edition\u201d\nthat arrived four months ago, just without the elaborate mediabook packaging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The crime picture King of the Gypsies<\/em> (1978) with\nEric Roberts, Judd Hirsch and Susan Sarandon is appearing in a 4K Ultra HD and\nBlu-ray \u201cStandard Edition\u201d as well. This title boasts a 4K restoration of the\noriginal camera negative in Dolby Vision and plenty of informative extras.\nAgain, the only major difference is in the packaging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Criterion is presenting Birth<\/em> (2004) as a 4K Ultra HD\nand Blu-ray set, as well as a standalone Blu-ray. Nicole Kidman stars in this\nunusual drama from Jonathan Glazer (The Zone of Interest, Under the Skin<\/em>)\nabout a young boy who tries to convince a widow that he is the reincarnation of\nher deceased husband. A new 4K picture restoration of the film was supervised\nand approved by Glazer and is presented in Dolby Vision. Additionally, it comes\nwith a 2004 interview featuring Glazer and Kidman, a new documentary on the\nmaking of the film with behind-the-scenes footage, and a new program on the\ncinematography that contains discussions with the camera operator and first\nassistant cameraman. A trailer is also included.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

House Party<\/em> (1990) is getting a 4K Ultra HD and\nBlu-ray release, as well as a Blu-ray only edition. This comedy stars Kid \u2018n\nPlay as teens and aspiring MCs trying to make their mark at their\nneighborhood\u2019s biggest party of the year. You\u2019ll get a 4K restoration of the\nmovie presented in Dolby Vision that was supervised by cinematographer Peter\nDeming and approved by director Reginald Hudlin (The Ladies Man, Marshall,\nSidney<\/em>). Additionally, there is a new Hudlin commentary track, a new\nconversation with the director, the producer and a film scholar. A cast reunion\nis included, and the 1983 student short that inspired the feature. A trailer is\nalso included, along with an essay on the movie.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kiss of the Spider Woman<\/em> (1985) is also appearing in\na 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray combo pack, as well as a Blu-ray only edition. This\npicture follows a man imprisoned who becomes friends with his gay cellmate. The\nmovie stars Raul Julia and William Hurt, and Hurt earned an Oscar for his role.\nThe movie has been given a new 4K restoration and is presented in Dolby Vision.\nIt comes with an interview with an expert on the author of the source material,\nas well as a short on the writer. There is also a feature-length documentary on\nthe production, a trailer and an essay on the movie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those who appreciate the work of Jess Franco (The Grapes\nof Death<\/em>) can pick up a Blu-ray of the kinky vampire movie Doriana Gray <\/em>(1976)\nfrom Delirious Home Video. The image is remastered from the original camera\nnegative and the disc features a commentary with a movie critic, archival\ninterviews with Franco, the producer and the star, as well as trailers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hong Kong period action\/comedy film King of Beggars<\/em>\n(1992) is appearing as a \u201cLimited Edition\u201d Blu-ray from Eureka Entertainment. A\nnobleman falls for the daughter of the title figure and gets himself into all\nsorts of fights as a result. The disc promises a 2K picture restoration, the\noriginal Cantonese audio with English subtitles or an English-language dub, a\nnew commentary with an Asian cinema expert, new interviews with the director,\nas well as a film authority video essay on stars So Chan and Stephen Chow. A\ntrailer is included, and the disc comes with a booklet with writing on the\nmovie and a slipcase featuring new art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

100 Yen Love<\/em> (2014) is a Japanese feature about a\n32-year-old outcast woman working at a 100-yen store (the country\u2019s equivalent\nof a dollar store) who falls in love with a man working out at a nearby gym.\nFilm Movement is delivering the film on Blu-ray. It comes with a making-of\ndocumentary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The classic World War II film The Dam Busters<\/em> (1955)\nis getting a 4K Ultra HD from Film Movement as well. It\u2019s about a group of\nBritish pilots who set out to destroy the Ruhr dam and paralyze the country\u2019s\nweapons-manufacturing industry. Some state that the climactic raid inspired the\nDeath Star attack scene in Star Wars: A New Hope<\/em>. In addition to the\nimproved picture quality, you\u2019ll get a making-of, a film historian commentary,\na documentary on Sir Barnes Wallis, a look at the 617 squadron fighters,\nfootage of bomb tests, film from the Royal Premiere of the picture, and a\ntrailer.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Left Behind Daughters Trilogy: The Films of Huang Ji\nand Ryuji Otsuka<\/em> is a Blu-ray collection of films from the Chinese\nhusband\/wife filmmaking team that includes Egg and Stone<\/em> (2012), Foolish\nBird<\/em> (2017) and Stonewalling<\/em> (2022). Kimstim is releasing the set,\nwhich comes with trailers and a booklet with writing on the features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kino Lorber is presenting the romantic comedy Hold That\nBlonde!<\/em> (1945) on Blu-ray. It follows a man who falls for a jewel thief\nplayed by Veronica Lake. The picture has been given a 2K restoration from a\n35mm fine grain source, and features a film historian commentary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s Spend the Night Together<\/em> (1982) is a concert\nfilm featuring The Rolling Stones playing a collection of hits during their\n1981 US tour. Hal Ashby (Harold and Maude, Being There<\/em>) directed the\nfilm using modern (for the day) camera set-ups to capture the live energy. This\nfilm is being given a 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray release, boasting a new 4K SDR\nrestoration from the original camera negative, a new commentary from the host\nof a podcast about the band, and a new commentary with entertainment\njournalists on the movie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Charles Bronson action picture The Mechanic<\/em>\n(1972) is getting a 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray combo release. The story involves\nan older hitman who takes on an apprentice before learning that he is being\ntargeted by someone. A new 4K restoration was taken from the original camera\nnegative and is presented in Dolby Vision. There is a new film historian audio\ncommentary, as well as an archival movie expert commentary, and a third\ncommentary with the cinematographer. An interview with the screenwriter is\nincluded, as well as a theatrical trailer.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And Kino is delivering a \u201cSpecial Edition\u201d Blu-ray of the\nremake of Sabrina<\/em> (1995) starring Harrison Ford and Julia Ormond. No\nword yet on what the extras are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The creepy Swedish horror\/drama The Doll<\/em> (1962) aka Vaxdockan<\/em>\ninvolves a nightwatchman who falls in love with a store mannequin which he\nbelieves is alive. causing all sorts of problems. Klubb Super 8 is delivering\nthe movie on Blu-ray. Extras on the disc include a video essay on the feature,\nan intro to the movie, trailers, a film historian commentary, publicity\nmaterials, and a bonus Swedish film called Ebon Lundin<\/em> (1973).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you rented a lot of VHS tapes back in the day, you might remember the thriller Pulse<\/em> (1988), about a family who are terrorized by a strange electrical force that enters the circuits of their home and uses appliances to hunt them down. Pictured to the left, the cast of the film includes Cliff De Young, Roxanne Hart, Joey Lawrence and Matthew Lawrence. Mill Creek\/Alliance Entertainment is reissuing the film on Blu-ray as a bare bones release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Ordinary People<\/em> (1980) is being released on Blu-ray\nby Paramount Pictures. This multiple Academy Award winner starring Donald\nSutherland, Mary Tyler Moore and Timothy Hutton is the story of a family\ndealing with grief after the unexpected death of a family member. The disc\ncontains a 4K restoration of the film overseen by late director Robert Redford,\nand contains an interview with Timothy Hutton (who won a Best Supporting Actor\nOscar for his role in the film at the age of 20), as well as a discussion with\nthe writer of the source material and how it was adapted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those who appreciate low-budget, shot-on-video efforts may\nbe interested in Specter\u2019s Rock<\/em> (2003), which is arriving on Blu-ray\nfrom Saturn\u2019s Core Audio & Video. It\u2019s about a woman who awakens in the\nnight to see a strange figure standing in the shadows. Soon, neighbors and\nothers begin to witness the same thing. The film has never appeared on any\nphysical media before, and now appears on disc with a transfer from the\noriginal DigiBeta master tapes with an intro from the writer\/director. It comes\nwith a filmmaker commentary that includes a cast member, deleted scenes, an\nEPK, and publicity materials, as well as a recently completed sequel, Specter\u2019s\nRock 2025<\/em> (2025), with its own set of extras.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bronco Bullfrog<\/em> (1971) is a British drama about two\nEast-London teens who fall in love (against the wishes of their parents) and\nget into trouble with the law. Seventy-Seven is releasing a Blu-ray of the\nmovie, that arrives with a new commentary from the cinematographer, a 30-minute\ndocumentary on the theater director who found the young talent for the picture,\nas well an interview with her, a feature-length documentary about her life, a\nnever-before-seem Q&A  with cast members, a podcast on the feature, a\nrerelease trailer and teaser, and a booklet with essays on the move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a busy edition for Severin Films as well. A Blu-ray of\nthe Hong Kong period action\/comedy Fearless Dragons<\/em> (1970) is arriving\nat stores. The plot follows two con men who are set up for a massive theft of\ncharity funds they didn\u2019t commit. They have to avoid the law and catch those\nresponsible for the robbery. The disc boasts a 4K picture restoration from the original\ncamera negative, an Asian cinema expert commentary track, an interview with the\ndirector, a discussion with a cast member and a trailer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A \u201cStandard Edition\u201d 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray of the Italian\nfeature The House on the Edge of the Park<\/em> (1976). It involves two punks\nwho crash a high society party, only to be taunted by the attendees. The pair\nsoon turn on the hosts and take their revenge. The previous version arrived\nsome months ago and came with a 4K restoration from the original camera\nnegative, a commentary, cast and crew interviews and publicity materials, in\nfancy packaging. This version presumably doesn\u2019t have the extra packaging, but\ncontains most, if not all, of the bonuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The same goes for the \u201cStandard Edition\u201d 4K Ultra HD and\nBlu-ray of the Italian animal attack film, Wild Beasts<\/em> (1984). PCP gets\ninto the water supply at a zoo, and the non-human residents escape and go on a\nrampage. If you can handle the gory nastiness (real circus animals were trained\nand used for much of the filming), you\u2019ll get a 4K picture restoration from the\noriginal camera negative, cast and crew interviews, and a trailer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Shout Factory is continuing to release classic Hong Kong\naction pictures in upgraded 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray sets. This week, Once A\nThief<\/em> (1991) is arriving on store shelves. It\u2019s another notable title from\nJohn Woo (The Killer, Hard Boiled, Hard Target, Broken Arrow, Face\/Off<\/em>)\nwith Chow Yun-Fat as one of a trio of art thieves who must take on their crime\nboss after being double-crossed. The film has been given a 4K scan from the\noriginal camera negative, and is presented in Dolby Vision. Additionally,\nyou\u2019ll get a Hong Kong movie expert commentary, interviews with Woo and crew\nmembers, a video essay on the film, a featurette on co-star Leslie Cheung, an\narchival interview with co-star Kenneth Tsang and a trailer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The distributor is also putting out a 4K Ultra HD and\nBlu-ray Steelbook of the Brad Pitt zombie movie hit, World War Z<\/em> (2013).\nThis product is identical to the 2023 edition with all the same bells and\nwhistles like various production featurettes. The only difference here is the\npackaging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Horror streaming site Shudder is putting a couple of their\ntitles on disc.  Bad Things<\/em> (2023) was one of their titles that got\na DVD-only release a couple of years ago. Now, it is receiving the Blu-ray\ntreatment. It\u2019s a haunted hotel flick in which a group of friends whose\nrelationships are strained become further untethered when one inherits the\nbusiness and invites them over for a stay.  It comes with a commentary\nfeaturing the writer\/director and the producers, a lengthy interview with the\nfilmmaker, archival interviews with the cast, a visual essay, promo materials\nand a booklet with an essay on the movie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A \u201cStandard Edition\u201d Blu-ray of Slapface <\/em>(2022) is\nalso arriving from Shudder, which is the same as a previous edition only\nwithout a slipcase. It\u2019s about an orphaned boy who forms a relationship with a\nmonster in the woods. You\u2019ll get multiple commentaries, interviews, a Q&A,\na short film, a photo gallery, a trailer and a booklet with writing on the\npicture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Terror Vision is a website known for its many exclusive\ngenre film releases, all of which typically come with a ton of extras (they\nalso sell a lot of horror movie soundtracks). They are making several available\nthis week, with highlights including the 90s Nightmares Volume 1<\/em>\nBlu-ray, which contains the low-budget indie chillers Mountain Fury<\/em>\n(1991), Hell Spa<\/em> (1992) and Lady of the Lake<\/em> (1998).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Basement<\/em> (1989) is a shot-on-Super-8 horror\nanthology that took over two decades to complete. It arrives on Blu-ray with a\nsoundtrack CD and comes with a ton of bonuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The site is also putting out a double-feature Blu-ray that\ncontains the entertaining Troll 2<\/em> documentary Best Worst Movie<\/em>\n(2009) and The American Scream<\/em> (2012), an amusing doc about Halloween\nenthusiasts who go over-the-top with their seasonal decorations. In addition to\nthose two pictures, specs list that besides many other extras, this release\nincludes 2K scans of 16mm prints of the public domain titles like Night of\nthe Living Dead<\/em> (1968) and Nosferatu <\/em>(1922).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Happy Hell Night<\/em> (1992) is available as a 4K Ultra HD\nand Blu-ray set, as is a \u201cDeluxe Edition\u201d of the slasher Hide and Go Shriek<\/em>\n(1988), which involves some teens who get sneak into a furniture store after it\ncloses and get hunted down by a maniac. The film is presented with a new 4K\nscan from the uncut interpositive in Dolby Vision. It comes with a 40-page book\non the film, a director commentary, making-of documentary, deleted scenes, and\nmuch more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The French genre film The Last Screening<\/em> (2011) is\narriving on Blu-ray. The film is about a projectionist who begins to mimic the\ndisturbing behaviors he witnesses in classic horror movies. It was scanned and\nrestored in 2K from the original camera negative and features a film historian\ncommentary, cast and crew interviews and other extras.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Patchwork<\/em> (2015) can be purchased on the site as a\n\u201cDeluxe Edition\u201d 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray, with an accompanying CD. This film\ntells the strange story of three women who are murdered and patched together by\na mad doctor. They wake up to find all three of their personalities intact and\ntry to get revenge.  Like the other titles, it comes with a 4K Dolby\nVision presentation and numerous bonus features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shoestring Slashers Part II<\/em> is a Blu-ray set that\ncontains the shot-on-Betacam pictures Bloodspell<\/em> (1988), Night of the\nDribbler<\/em> (1990) and Blood Symbol<\/em> (1992). Commentary tracks,\ninterviews and featurettes can be found on the discs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Terror Vision also seems to have acquired the rights to the\nParamount Pictures comedy Student Bodies<\/em> (1981) and are releasing it as\na \u201cDeluxe Edition\u201d 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray and CD. It\u2019s an Airplane!<\/em>-style\nparody of slasher films of the day. If memory serves, there are some big laughs\nearly on, but it does run out of gas by the final act. Still, some of the\neffective gags early on may make it worth the purchase. The film has been\nscanned and restored in 4K from its 35mm camera negative and is presented in\nDolby Vision. You\u2019ll also get a new commentary with the stars of the movie, a\nnew hour-long making-of documentary, archival presentations of the movie, a\ntrailer, a 40-page book with essays on the feature, and a CD with the score.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Universal Studios is delivering a 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray\ncombo of the rom-com Marry Me<\/em> (2022) starring Jennifer Lopez and Owen\nWilson. She plays a pop star who is rejected by her fianc\u00e9 during a concert.\nShe decides to randomly marry a person in the crowd, and the plot follows what\nhappens afterwards. Bonus features include a director commentary, deleted\nscenes, a gag reel, a making-of, a featurette on the music in the movie, and a\nlyric music video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vinegar Syndrome is putting out a few titles as exclusives\non their website. These editions usually contain impressive packaging, with\n\u201cStandard Editions\u201d arriving a month or two down the road. A Candle for the\nDevil<\/em> (1973) is one of those pictures appearing in a 4K Ultra HD and\nBlu-ray combo pack. It\u2019s a Spanish title about sisters who run a small hotel\nand murder guests who do not meet their moral standards. The film was restored\nin 4K from its 35mm original camera negative. There is a new appreciation for\nthe movie included as a bonus, as well as new interviews with cast members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Blu-ray of Ghostkeeper<\/em> (1981) from Canadian\nInternational Pictures delivers a literal chiller about friends snowmobiling in\nthe mountains who take refuge in a lodge with an evil presence. The movie has\nbeen given a 4K restoration from the only known complete 35mm theatrical print\nand comes with a cast and associate producer commentary, as well as a movie\nhistorian audio track. There\u2019s a horror movie podcast episode included,\ninterviews with film historians and crew members, as well as a discussion with\nthe score composer who goes over his previous works. There is also a film\nfestival Q&A, talks from other Canadian filmmakers about their experience\nwith the film\u2019s director, archival interviews, shorts from the moviemaker, a\npitch for a sequel that never came to be, a booklet with writing on the movie,\nand more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Great Silence<\/em> (1968) is a violent Italian western\nwith Klaus Kinski about vicious bounty hunters working in the snowy mountains.\nThis movie is arriving as a 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray combo. Anyone who purchases\nthis title will get a 4K picture restoration of the title, English and Italian\naudio tracks, three film expert commentary tracks, a 1968 documentary on\nItalian westerns, two alternate endings restored in 2K with sound and optional\nfilm historian commentary, (one of the finales has never been seen before).\nTrailers and a booklet with essays on the movies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the hilarious crime comedy Married to the Mob<\/em>\n(1988) (which is arriving through the Cinematographe line) is available as an\nexclusive 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray set through Vinegar Syndrome. Jonahtan Demme\n(Something Wild, The Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia<\/em>) directs this\ntale of a mobster\u2019s wife who considers helping the FBI in order to escape her\ncriminal lifestyle. It isn\u2019t as easy as it initially looks, though. The film\nstars Michelle Pfeiffer, Matthew Modine, Dean Stockwell, Alec Baldwin, Joan\nCusack and Mercedes Ruehl and, if memory serves, is hilarious. The set delivers\na 4K restoration of the film in Dolby Vision, a new commentary from co-star\nModine, a new film expert commentary, new discussions with cast and crew\nmembers, a new video essay on the movie, a podcast episode about the work that\nwent into restoring the feature, publicity materials, a trailer, and a booklet\nwith essays on the movie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wild Eye Releasing is delivering Asylum of Darkness<\/em>\n(2013) on Blu-ray. It\u2019s an indie chiller about a man who wakes up in a mental\nasylum. He attempts to escape, but finds the outside world filled with\nsupernatural threats. The cast includes familiar faces Richard Hatch and Tim\nThomerson. The disc boasts a director supervised transfer from the original\n35mm elements, a director introduction, two commentaries with the filmmaker and\nwith a movie expert, tons of cast and crew interviews, deleted scenes, multiple\nshorts from the director, a 12-page book and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, Warner Archive is making made-to-order Blu-rays\navailable for the titles By the Light of the Silvery Moon<\/em> (1953), For\nthe First Time<\/em> (1959), Manpower<\/em> (1941), The Narrow Margin<\/em>\n(1952), Red Dust<\/em> (1932) and The Verdict<\/em> (1946).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
