Welcome to the latest look at highlights arriving on 4K\nUltra HD, Blu-ray and DVD. This edition includes an interesting mix of\nindependents and higher profile features. So, if you can\u2019t make it out to the\nmovies this week, be sure to give one of these titles a try!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BIG NEW RELEASES!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

AMERICAN SWEATSHOP \u2013 This independent thriller involves a\nyoung woman hired as a content moderator for a social media platform. She is\ntasked with going over flagged messages and taking down inappropriate content.\nIt\u2019s a tough job, with the young woman enduring a nasty boss who insists she\nmeets removal quotas, and having to read some horrific postings. Things get\neven more stressful when she discovers disturbing messages related to a real\ncrime. Reaction towards the picture was generally good. About one-quarter did\nfind that the characters were generic and that the critiques presented obvious\nand unsubtle. Still, most enjoyed the lead performance and suggested that the\ntitle was timely and tense as it showed the disturbing effects of social media,\neven on those overseeing its removal. It stars Lili Reinhart, Daniela Melchoir\nand Joel Fry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

CITY WIDE FEVER \u2013 A film student discovers a USB disc\ncontaining information about a noteworthy but somewhat forgotten Italian genre\nfilm director. As it turns out, this moviemaker disappeared mysteriously, and\nthe information on the item leads the protagonist to uncover a shocking\nconspiracy with elements similar to some of the director\u2019s unsettling features.\nNaturally, this puts her life in danger. Only a handful of genre critics have\nseen this low-budget effort, but they were upbeat about the feature. One or two\ndidn\u2019t think that the plot made much sense, and suggested that the film\u2019s\nattempts to ape 1980s Italian horror pictures were ineffective. But everyone\nelse stated that the movie had an excellent concept, appreciated the film\nreferences and thought the low-budget, guerilla-style production was a\ngenerally effective one. Diletta Guglielmi, Rutanya Alda, Hugo Alexander-Rose,\nIan Fedance and Larry Fessenden headline the film.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

COLD STORAGE \u2013 A young man working at a cold storage\nfacility hears a strange noise while working on-the-job. He convinces another\nemployee to help him find out what the sound is. As it turns out, the\ngovernment has been storing something very dangerous there. When the threat is\naccidentally released, it begins to infect several individuals on-site and turn\nthem into killers. Soon, the protagonists must stop the spread before it\nescapes across the country. This horror\/comedy was well-received by critics. A small\nnumber found the story pedestrian and didn\u2019t think the jokes worked well with\nthe story\u2019s more serious and scary elements. However, the consensus was that\nthe feature was a very bloody, effortlessly funny throwback to 1980s horror\ncomedies. They felt that it benefited from an above average cast who\neffectively sold the outrageous material. The film is arriving on shelves as a\n4K Ultra HD only release and a standalone Blu-ray. It features Joe Keery,\nGeorgina Campbell, Liam Neeson, Lesley Manville, Vanessa Redgrave and Sosie\nBacon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

DUST BUNNY \u2013 An eight-year-old girl\u2019s parents disappear\nunder strange circumstances and the youngster immediately visits her secretive,\nantisocial neighbor. She believes that a monster under her bed is responsible,\nand that the man next door is an assassin. The girl offers him money to wipe\nout the creature responsible. As it turns out, the child is correct about the\nfigure being a hit man. He accepts, believing that some criminal element must\nhave been responsible, but finds the situation more supernatural than initially\nanticipated. The press rated this effort highly, while noting that it was very\nviolent and not a kid-friendly story. A handful didn\u2019t care for the way the\naction was shot and edited, also stating that the plot was slightly convoluted\nand left them with too many questions. But the vast majority called the film\nenjoyably warped and wild, delivering memorably gruesome mayhem, as well as\nsweet, charming and entertainingly eccentric characters. The film stars Mads\nMikkelsen, Sophie Sloan, Sheila Stim, David Dastmalchian, Rebecca Henderson and\nSigourney Weaver.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

GRAFTED \u2013 A very sharp, but socially awkward exchange\nstudent from China on a medical scholarship moves to New Zealand and arrives at\nthe home of her aunt. It is revealed that part of the lead\u2019s unusual behavior\nstems from the fact that she feels embarrassed by a congenital birth defect.\nSoon, the real reason she has moved to this country becomes clear. She is\nsecretly finishing the disturbing work begun by her father. It isn;t long\nbefore the student becomes obsessed with experimentation. Writes-up were very\nstrong for this chiller. One or two didn\u2019t think the movie did much with its\nthemes of body horror and that it ultimately felt thin and unsatisfying. But\neveryone else thought the picture was sharp-witted. They were intrigued by the\nmain character, disturbed by the scenes involving grafting techniques, and\nbelieved there was great commentary on beauty standards. The title features\nJoyena Sun, Jess Hong, Eden Hart and Jared Turner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

HIGHEST 2 LOWEST \u2013 A New York City record label owner who\nhas sold his majority ownership plans to buy back the company after learning\nthat a rival company is planning to take control. On the day that the mogul\nputs up his savings to purchase majority ownership, his son is kidnapped. He\nreceives a call demanding $17.5 million dollars for his boy\u2019s safe return. The\nprotagonist agrees to pay, but then learns the criminals accidentally grabbed\nthe son of his driver instead. With business and personal interests at stake,\nthe protagonist must decide what to do next. This picture from Spike Lee (Do\nthe Right Thing, Malcolm X, Clockers, BlacKkKlansman<\/em>) is a remake of Akira\nKurosawa\u2019s 1981 film High and Low<\/em> and reviewers were generally positive\nabout it. A small number weren\u2019t interested in the wealthy lead\u2019s troubles and\nfound the story corny. All others called the film\u2019s emphasis on its morally\ngray lead interesting. They also enjoyed the performances and became caught up\nin the exciting story. The title is available on 4K Ultra HD or Blu-ray through\nthe A24 website. Denzel Washington, Jeffrey Wright, Ilfenesh Hadera, ASAP Rocky\nand John Douglas Thompson headline the film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

LILY LIVES ALONE \u2013 A decade after losing her young daughter,\na woman continues to struggle with her loss. She combats feelings of emptiness\nwith bad habits, including heavy drinking and pill-popping. As the ten-year\nanniversary of the death approaches, she begins to think about her own tortured\nchildhood, and then experiences disturbing hallucinations. A casual hookup\nresults in more strangeness, that makes her new friend wonder if these visions\nmight be real. This independent genre effort split reviewers, although a few\nmore recommended the film than panned it. Those who disliked the picture stated\nthat it handled trauma and grief in a simplistic manner and that the various\nelements didn\u2019t come together effectively. The same number and a few more found\nthe movie atmospheric, with a great lead performance and a compelling character\nstudy of a broken character unable to cope with tragedy. The cast includes\nShannon Beeby, Ryan Jonze. Erin Way and Jeffrey Combs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

UNDER CURRENT \u2013 This Hong Kong crime picture involves a\nconscientious lawyer teaming up with a \u201cplayboy sheriff\u201d to take down an\nunusual criminal operation. The two figures initially butt heads as they\ninvestigate the murder when a financial officer at a notable charity is found\nhanged on stage. But it isn\u2019t long before the pair agree that the chairman of a\nmajor charity has stolen $200 million dollars from the non-profit organization\nfor himself, and may actually be a dangerous figure. So far, reaction to this\nforeign-language feature in this part of the world has been mixed-positive. A\nfew have complained that the message delivered is a good one, but that the film\nhas been presented in an old-fashioned manner and doesn\u2019t thrill. Others wrote\nthat, while a bit silly, the picture was entertaining thanks to a number of\nnotable cast members and a fascinating story. It features Aaron Kwok, Simon\nYam, Francis Ng and Alex Fong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BLASTS FROM THE PAST!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re looking for something older, there are plenty of\ngreat options this week. Arrow Video is releasing Innerspace<\/em> (1987) as a\n\u201cLimited Edition” 4K Ultra HD or \u201cLimited Edition\u201d Blu-ray. This very\nentertaining comedy\/science-fiction\/fantasy is a modern take on the 60s film Fantastic\nVoyage<\/em>, in which scientists develop technology to shrink a capsule\ncontaining a human. When villains try to steal the technology in order to sell\nto the highest bidder, a test pilot is accidentally injected into a grocery\nstore clerk. Adventure follows as the shrunken military hero tries to coach his\nhypochondriac host and in order to save the day. The movie stars Martin Short,\nDennis Quaid and Meg Ryan. This effort from Joe Dante (Gremlins, Explorers,\nThe \u2018Burbs, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, Small Soldiers<\/em>) was very\nwell-received but flopped at the box office when it was originally released. It\ndid, however, win an Academy Award for Visual Effects and has since found a\nlarge following.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this release, the original 35mm camera negative has been restored in 4K and is presented in Dolby Vision. You\u2019ll also get a film critic commentary, an archival audio commentary featuring director Dante and members of the cast and crew. Additionally, there is a new hour-long making-of documentary with Dante, producer Mike Finnell, the visual effects team and cast member Robert Picardo. Previously unseen footage shot on-set during the production is also included, as well as unseen footage of the visual effects team creating the dynamic inside-the-body visuals. Original storyboards, behind-the-scenes polaroids, a stills gallery, posters and promo materials, and trailer are also included. It comes packaged in a reversible sleeve with original and new artwork for the film, as well as a double-sided fold-out poster of the images, and a booklet with writing on the movie by numerous critics.\u00a0Read a detailed review of the release right here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arrow is also delivering the Kurt Russell\nscience-fiction\/action picture Soldier<\/em> (1998) as a \u201cLimited Edition\u201d 4K\nUltra HD title. It follows a genetically engineered soldier of the future who\nis rescued on a waste disposal planet by friendly residents. When more killers\narrive to take the planet, the soldier fights back on behalf of the locals. The\nfilm has been given a 4K restoration supervised by director Paul W.S. Anderson\n(Event Horizon, Resident Evil<\/em>) and is presented in Dolby Vision. It\ncomes with a director, cast and crew commentary, a new interview with co-star\nJames Black, as well as the assistant director, associate producer, and\nproduction designer. A visual effects featurette is also included, along with\ntalks with the visual effects supervisors, a discussion on the screenwriting\nprocess, a new retrospective on the movie, as well as tons of promo materials.\nIt comes in a reversible sleeve with original and newly commissioned artwork,\nand a booklet with essays on the picture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eureka Entertainment is delivering the Blu-ray box set Adventure Calls! Karl May at CCC<\/em>. If you\u2019re familiar with Spaghetti westerns, you might be interested in learning that May was a German who also made these types of pictures in his homeland. The release contains Old Shatterhand<\/em> (1964), The Shoot<\/em> (1964), In the Kingdom of the Silver Lion<\/em> (1965), The Pyramid of the Sun God<\/em> (1965), Through Wild Kurdistan<\/em> (1965), The Treasure of the Aztecs<\/em> (1965) and Winnetou and Old Shatterhand in the Valley of Death<\/em> (1968). All seven titles have been given 4K restorations and arrive with new introductions from a western film historian, audio commentaries on two titles, an interview with the producer, a discussion with an editor, and a talk with Daliah Lavi from the first movie in the set. Extra also listed include news footage on The Shoot, a featurette on the restoration of the pictures, and theatrical trailers. The first 2000 copies also come with a 60-page book on the movies. A REVIEW OF THIS RELEASE WILL APPEAR ON THE SITE SHORTLY.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bayview Entertainment (who used to be Mill Creek) are\nputting out a Blu-ray of the Hong Kong crime\/drama Elisa\u2019s Day<\/em> (2021).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Bizarro is a new line that specializes in Spanish genre\ntitles. This week, you can pick up The Ghost Galleon<\/em> (1974) as a 4K\nUltra HD and Blu-ray. This is actually the fourth and final film in the Blind\nDead<\/em> series, with models and a photo shoot crew getting trapped on a boat\nwith the noted zombies. A fancy edition on the Vingary Syndrome site is sold\nout, but this version contains the same 4K restoration of the film from the\ncamera negative, a new appreciation of the movie, a talk on the director, a\ndiscussion with the make-up effects artist, and an archival documentary on the\ndirector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking of relatively new distributors, Cauldron Films is\nanother one that specializes in independent genre films. You will have to order\ntitles through their specific website. A new release that has popped up is Conquest<\/em>\n(1983), which is appearing as a \u201cLimited Edition\u201d 4K Ultra HD, a Blu-ray, an\nextras Blu-ray, and a CD (a version with an added cassette is also available).\nThis is an Italian fantasy from Lucio Fulci (Zombie, The Beyond<\/em>) about a\nwarrior with a magical bow taking on an evil witch. It\u2019s packed with bonus\nfeatures you can look up on the site.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The same goes for the 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray of Jess\nFranco\u2019s take on Jack the Ripper<\/em> (1976) starring Klaus Kinski as the\ntitle serial killer. Look it up on their site if you\u2019re interested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eclipse Series 48: Kinuyo Tanaka Directs<\/em> is a new\nBlu-ray set from Criterion featuring several of the actor-turned-director\u2019s\nworks. It contains Love Letter<\/em> (1953), Forever a Woman<\/em> (1955), The\nMoon Has Risen<\/em> (1955), The Wandering Princess<\/em> (1960), Girls of\nthe Night<\/em> (1961) and Love Under the Crucifix<\/em> (1962). The set arrives\nwith an essay on the various movies included.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

John Singleton\u2019s Hood Trilogy<\/em> contains the films Boyz\nin the Hood<\/em> (1991), Poetic Justice<\/em> (1993) and Baby Boy<\/em>\n(2001). This compilation of major titles from the moviemaker about life in\nSouth-Central Los Angeles is available either on 4K Ultra HD only or Blu-ray.\nAll the titles included have been given 4K restorations and are presented in\nDolby Vision (Singleton personally supervised the transfer of the first title\nin the set). The director also provides commentaries on all the movies, and\nthere is a new conversation between Ryan Coogler and Regina King on these\ntitles. A documentary on Singleton\u2019s process is listed as a bonus, as well as\nnew audio interviews with Taraji P. Henson and Tyrese Gibson, archival cast and\ncrew interviews, a press conference from 1991, deleted scenes, audition\nfootage, music videos, trailers, and an essay on the films.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cinematographe is delivering a \u201cLimited Edition\u201d Blu-ray\nMediabook of the Robert Duvall crime feature Badge 373<\/em> (1973). The star\nplays a cop who goes rouge tracking down the man who killed his partner. It\narrives with a 4K picture restoration taken from the original camera negative.\nExtras include a film historian commentary, an interview with a real police\ndetective, a featurette on the portrayal of Latinos in the film, a movie expert\nconversation about the title, a video essay and promo materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can also pick up a \u201cStandard Edition\u201d 4K Ultra HD and\nBlu-ray of Boxcar Bertha<\/em> (1972), an early effort from Martin Scorsese.\nIt has the same transfer as the recently released \u201cSpecial Edition\u201d as well as\nbonus features, but in simpler packaging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It isn\u2019t available through Amazon, but if you go to the\nVinegar Syndrome website (or indie outfits associated with them) you can pick\nup the neo-noir Liebestraum <\/em>(1991) on Blu-ray. The picture is from Mike\nFiggis (Stormy Monday, Leaving Las Vegas<\/em>) and involves a professor who\nreturns home to visit his terminally ill adopted mother, only to uncover family\nsecrets in the process. The cast includes Kevin Anderson, Pamela Gidley, Kim\nNovak and Bill Pullman. Apparently, it\u2019s a little seen and underrated effort.\nThe film has been given a 2K restoration and comes with a Figgis commentary, a\nfilm noir expert commentary, a new interview with the director, video\ninterviews with crew members, a video essay on the feature, deleted scenes, a\ntrailer and essays on the title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A \u201cStandard Edition\u201d of the Dark Star Pictures\ndouble-feature Blu-ray Hayride to Hell<\/em> (2022) and A Halloween Feast<\/em>\n(2024) is now available. It\u2019s identical to the previous edition, only without a\nslipcover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Love Letters of a Portuguese Nun<\/em> (1977) is an\n\u201cnunspolitation\u201d film from Jess Franco that is arriving on Blu-ray from\nDelirium Home Video. It follows a teenage girl who joins a convent run by\nSatanists and is subjected to, well, kinky stuff. It comes with a film\nhistorian commentary, an interview with the director, a featurette on the\nproduction, a trailer and a photo gallery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Film Movement is releasing Great Absence<\/em> (2023) on\nBlu-ray. This Japanese thriller comes with a director interview and trailers.\nThe distributor is also putting out a Blu-ray of Ju Dou<\/em> (1990). It\u2019s a\ndrama set in China about a wife who gets pregnant via her infertile husband\u2019s\nnephew and must hide the origins of the baby from the extended family.\nApparently, the disc contains a 4K scan of the film that was done in 2017, and\ncomes with a film historian commentary, a visual essay, a discussion with\ncritics about the film and a trailer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Novice<\/em> (2021) is arriving on Blu-ray from IFC\nFilms. It\u2019s about the challenges faced by a university student who joins a\nrowing team. The disc lists a director commentary, an interview with the\nfilmmaker and the star, two deleted scenes and a booklet with writing on the\nfeature as extras.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Japanese feature Carnival in the Night<\/em> (1981) is\ngetting a Blu-ray from Kani. It\u2019s a cinema v\u00e9rit\u00e9-style effort about a punk\nrocker who goes on a journey of self-discovery. The feature has been given a 4K\nrestoration from its 16mm negative. You\u2019ll also get a bonus movie, Saint\nTerrorism<\/em> (1981), transferred to 2K from its original 8mm elements. There\nis also a newly commissioned short from the director, Dude <\/em>(2025) and a\nbooklet with an essay about the filmmaker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Plan 75<\/em> (2022) is a Japanese drama about a future\nworld where seniors are encouraged to commit suicide to save the government\nmoney. Kimstim is putting out a Blu-ray of this title, which also includes an\nearly short from the director called Niagara<\/em> (2013), an interview with\nthe filmmaker and an essay on the picture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kino Lorber is putting out another Abbott and Costello title\non 4K Ultra HD. You can pick up Hold That Ghost<\/em> (1941) with the comedy\nduo. The specs state that the film has been given a 4K restoration and is\npresented in Dolby Vision. There are two film historian commentaries, along\nwith a trailer. Early copies include a slipcase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Man Who Reclaimed His Head<\/em> (1934) with Claude\nRains is appearing on Blu-ray. A 2K restoration from a 35mm fine-grain source\nhas been used for this release, which features two film historian commentaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The vampire USA Network TV movie Nightlife<\/em> (1989)\nwith Ben Cross and Maryam d\u2019Abo is arriving on Blu-ray. This one involves a\nsupposed mummy that arrives in a Mexico City museum for display. As it turns\nout, the entombed figure is actually a bloodsucker who goes on the rampage. An\ninterpositive of the movie has been a 2K restoration, and the disc also\nincludes two critic commentaries, and a slipcase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

And the distributor is also delivering a 4K Ultra HD and\nBlu-ray combo and standalone Blu-ray of the hit comedy, Throw Momma from the\nTrain<\/em> (1987). Billy Crystal, Danny DeVito and Anne Ramsay star in this take\non Hitchcock\u2019s Strangers on a Train<\/em>. After making a passing reference to\nwanting his plagiarizing ex-wife to disappear, a frustrated author and writing\nteacher is shocked to discover that one of his students has taken up his\nchallenge\u2026 and that he expects his domineering mom to be wiped out in return.\nThe original camera negative has been given a 4K restoration for this release\nand is presented in Dolby Vision. There is also a film critic commentary, a\nrecent interview with cinematographer Barry Sonnenfeld, production featurettes,\ndeleted scenes, and a trailer. The discs come in a slipcase too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Swedish chiller Fear Has 1000 Eyes<\/em> (1970) is\narriving on Blu-ray from Klubb Super 8. The specs include a newly restored\npicture, a film expert commentary, an interview with the producer, a video\nessay, screen test for one of the stars, a trailer, as well as various\npublicity material galleries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

While it isn\u2019t receiving the 4K treatment, Paramount\nPictures is reissuing the Robert Altman feature Nashville<\/em> (1975) on\nBlu-ray. The movie has been remastered from a 4K scan of the original elements.\nFor those who haven\u2019t seen it, this is an epic with dozens of characters trying\nto make their mark in the country music capital of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A couple of years back, the studio put out a 4K Ultra HD and\nBlu-ray Steelbook of the wonderfully entertaining fantasy\/comedy Stardust<\/em>\n(2007). It sold out pretty quickly, so now it\u2019s being rereleased as a standard\n4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray. The contents should be exactly the same as the\nprevious version, only in a regular case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Powerhouse\/Indicator Films are releasing the French cult\nfilm The Grapes of Death<\/em> (1977) as a \u201cLimited Edition\u201d 4K Ultra HD as\nwell as a \u201cLimited Edition\u201d Blu-ray. The plot involves deadly wine that turns\ndrinkers into zombies and the picture is one of the better efforts from\nexploitation filmmaker Jean Rollin. The film has been newly restored in 4K from\nthe original negative and is presented in Dolby Vision. Additionally, it comes\nwith a film expert commentary track, an introduction to the movie from Rollin,\na documentary on the production, a 2002 interview with the moviemaker, a 2001 career\nspanning German documentary on Rollin, a 2007 discussion with Rollin recorded\nin Montreal, a critical appreciation of the movie, trailers, promotional and\npublicity materials. It comes packaged with an 80-page book featuring all sorts\nof writing on the title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Living Dead Girl<\/em> (1982) is another title from\nRolling that is receiving a \u201cLimited Edition\u201d 4K Ultra HD and a \u201cLimited\nEdition\u201d Blu-ray release. This one involves a female vampire who is resurrected\nby toxic waste and searches for blood from victims. Like the previous title,\nthe movie has been newly restored in 4K from the original negative and is\npresented in Dolby Vision. There is a Rollin commentary, a film historian\ncommentary, a selected-scene cast member commentary, a critic and a Jean Rollin\nintroduction to the feature, a new edit of a 2005 interview with the\nmoviemaker, and a 2007 conversation with Rollin on the film. In fact, there are\nseveral new edits of various cast and crew member interviews, as well as a\ndocumentary on the now-lost English-language American cut of the movie, a\ndocumentary about Rollin attending the Fantasia Festival in Montreal in 2007,\nalternate scenes, publicity materials and more. It also comes packed with an\n80-page book on the title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s also a busy week for Severin Films. In the 1980s, there\nwere plenty of knock-offs of Indiana Jones <\/em>movies. One series of titles\ninspired by the hit was directed by Antonio Margheriti (War Between the\nPlanets, Cannibal Apocalypse, Yor: The Hunter from the Future<\/em>), and came\nfrom Italy. A box set of the titles was made available through the company\u2019s\nwebsite, and now individual films are being made available everywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first film is The Hunters of the Golden Cobra<\/em>\n(1982) which you can pick up as a 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray combo or a standalone\nBlu-ray. The original camera negative was given a 4K restoration for this\nrelease, and bonuses include crew interviews, a 1996 award presentation and\ninterview with star David Warbeck, a video essay on the movie and a trailer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ark of the Sun God<\/em> (1984) is appearing on\nBlu-ray. It arrives with a 4K restoration from the original negative,\ninterviews with the assistant director and writer, and an archival piece in\nwhich the director remembers the film\u2019s star, Warbeck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And Jungle Raiders<\/em> (1985) is getting a Blu-ray. Specs\ninclude a 4K restoration from the original camera negative, a chat with the\nassistant director, an Italian credit sequence and a trailer. Or you can go to\nthe Severin Website and simply order a box set of all the movies in 4K Ultra\nHD. This version is called Antonio Margheriti & The Jungles of Doom: His\n80s Adventure Films<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Severin is also releasing the Blu-ray set, Gutter Auteur:\nThe Lost Legacy of Any Milligan \u2013 The Degenerate<\/em>, which contains The\nLife and Films of Andy Milligan<\/em> (2025), The Degenerates<\/em> (1966), Compass\nRose<\/em> (1967), Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me!<\/em> (1968), and House of\nSeven Belles<\/em> (1979). Like all other titles from the distributors, there are\nplenty of extras included.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

North Sea is Dead Sea<\/em> (1976) is receiving a \u201cStandard\nEdition\u201d Blu-ray from the distributor, which means that you can now pick up\nthis German coming-of-age drama without slipcases and fancy packaging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The same goes for the \u201cStandard Edition\u201d Blu-ray of Student\nConfidential<\/em> (1987), a teen comedy that was initially released by Troma\nEntertainment. This version will be very close to the previous one, just in\nregular packaging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hong Kong action fans should take note that a 4K Ultra HD\nand Blu-ray double-feature containing Tiger on the Beat<\/em> (1988) and Tiger\non the Beat II<\/em> (1990) is arriving from Shout Factory. I haven\u2019t seen the\nsequel, but the original is a fantastic Chow Yun-Fat picture with a wild and\nmemorable finale. Both movies have received 4K scans from the original camera\nnegatives and are presented in Dolby Vision. Additionally, there are film\nhistorian commentaries, and interviews with crew members and film experts on\nthese pictures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sony Pictures is presenting the romantic comedy Something\u2019s\nGotta Give<\/em> (2003) on Blu-ray. This effort stars Jack Nicholson, Diane\nKeaton, Keanu Reeves, Frances McDormand, Amanda Peet and Jon Favreau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vinegar Syndrome is putting out some titles as well. You can\npick up a Blu-ray of Cuddly Toys<\/em> (2021), a provocative study of the\nlives of teenage girls with reenactments and interviews. It comes with a\ndirector commentary and other bonuses.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Escape from Death<\/em> (1989) is being released as a\nVinegar Syndrome exclusive that will only be available through their website as\na 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray containing \u201cLimited Alternate Slipcover\u201d (another\nversion with a regular slipcover is coming next month). It follows a woman\nwhose husband disappears. When he shows up at the door a year later, she isn\u2019t\nconvinced it\u2019s really him. The film has been given a 4K restoration and is\npresented in Dolby Vision. It comes with a film historian commentary track,\ncast and crew interviews, and a talk with a film expert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Italian slasher Massacre<\/em> (1989) is receiving a 4K\nUltra HD and Blu-ray combo release. The movie has been given a 4K restoration\nfrom the 16mm camera negative and is presented in Dolby Vision. It comes with a\nfilm expert commentary, a lengthy interview with a cast member, talks with crew\nmembers, an interview with a movie historian and reversible sleeve artwork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Office Killer<\/em> (1997) is getting a 4K Ultra HD and\nBlu-ray combo. This picture was written by Todd Haynes and directed by noted\nartist\/photographer Cindy Sherman. It\u2019s a cult comedy\/slasher about a magazine\neditor who loses her sanity and goes on a murder spree. The picture stars Carol\nKane and Molly Ringwald, along with Eric Bogosian, Jeanne Tripplehorn and\nMichael Imperioli. The picture has been given a new 4K restoration from the\noriginal 35mm camera negative and is presented in Dolby Vision. It comes with a\nmovie expert commentary, an interview with Sherman and Ringwald celebrating the\nmovie\u2019s 30-year anniversary, new interviews with cast and crew members,\nbehind-the-scenes footage courtesy of Jeanne Tripplehorn, and a still gallery.\nReversible sleeve artwork is also included.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vinyl <\/em>(2000) from Canadian International Pictures is\nnow a 25th anniversary Blu-ray that can be purchased as a Vinegar Syndrome\nexclusive (on their website). It goes into obsessive collecting, focusing on LP\ncollectors, concentrating on the way their passion can bring joy, as well as\nthe negative impacts of the hobby. The well-regarded movie is said to have a\nconfessional approach and includes a mix of everyday vinyl devotees, alongside\ncultural figures\/filmmakers like Bruce LaBruce, Guy Maddin and Don McKellar. The\nimage has been taken from the best surviving master and includes an extended\nintroduction from the director, four filmmaker commentaries, 96-minutes movie\nof footage cut from the picture that was released in 2011, a director\ncommentary for this footage, extended interviews, additional outtakes, a\nbooklet with an essay from moviemaker Bruce McDonald, a double-sided poster and\nreversible cover artwork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Voices from Beyond<\/em> (1991) is another \u201cLimited\nEdition\u201d 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray and CD website exclusive (before it arrives at\nmost retailers in a month). This effort is from Lucio Fulci (Zombie, The\nBeyond<\/em>) and follows a family patriarch who wants revenge from beyond the\ngrave. The distributor is delivering a 4K restoration from the original camera\nnegative, archival director, cast and crew interviews, a discussion on the film\nwith a movie authority and a trailer. And of course, you\u2019ll get a CD with the\nsoundtrack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And finally, you can now pick up a number of new Blu-rays\nfrom Warner Archive. The titles available include 20,000 Years in Sing Sing<\/em>\n(1932), Arrowsmith<\/em> (1931), Captains Courageous<\/em> (1937), Crack\nUp<\/em> (1946) and King Richard and the Crusaders<\/em> (1954). Additionally,\nthere is a double feature Blu-ray called Monogram Matinee Volume 2 \u2013\nLouisiana<\/em> (1941)\/Song of the Range<\/em> (1944), as well as a Blu-ray of\nthe hit Goldie Hawn comedy Private Benjamin<\/em> (1980). She stars as a\nwealthy woman whose new husband drops dead on their wedding night. In order to\nmake ends meet, she enlists in the Women\u2019s Army Corps. The cast also features\nAlbert Brooks, Armand Assante and Eileen Brennan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
