<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nTHE LEGEND OF HEI II \u2013 This effort, which also goes by The\nLegend of Hei 2<\/em> in some markets, is a sequel to the 2019 Chinese animated\nfantasy The Legend of Hei<\/em>. Both films are prequels to a television\nseries that began airing in 2011. For those who missed the previous chapter,\nthe story involved a spirit that takes the form of a black cat, and has the\npower to bend space (as well as metal, apparently). After encountering various\ngood and bad humans, the being befriended an individual and was forced to\ndecide whether or not to protect our species from a sinister force (one assumes\nthat he ultimately did save us). This time out, peace between his kind and\nhumanity has ended, and the cat and his friends try to determine who is\nresponsible for starting the new conflict. Currently, there are only a couple\nof reviews available for this picture, but they have been upbeat. They note\nthat while it helps to already be familiar with the characters, this is a\nbeautifully animated tale that has a pleasant message about striving for\nuniversal peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n PETER HUJAR\u2019S DAY \u2013 Peter Hujar was an influential New York\nCity photographer in the 1960s and early 70s, perhaps best known for his\nportraits. Based on a 2021 book that describes 24 hours in his life, the biopic\nis focused on a 1974 conversation between the figure and his friend, Linda\nRosenkrantz. Over the course of the running time, they talk about life in the\ncity, living from day to day with no money, his artistic inspirations, and how\nhe approaches his work. The feature was well-received by the press. One or two\nnegative voices stated that the talky approach didn\u2019t do much to involve them\nin the characters, and that their conversation wasn\u2019t as interesting or deep as\nit could have been. However, everyone else appreciated the unique tactic used\nto create this biopic. They also suggested that the lead actors were excellent\nand the conversation was relatable, making the film interesting to watch. It\nstars Rebecca Hall and Ben Whishaw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n TWINLESS \u2013 Those who appreciate very dark comedies may enjoy\nthis effort. The story follows a young gay man who visits a diner in Portland.\nHe picks up another patron and they spend the night together. The lead wants to\nstart a relationship with the new person, but the individual won\u2019t return his\ncalls. He stalks the figure and eventually confronts him on the side of a road,\nbefore the surprised man is accidentally hit by a passing vehicle. Shortly\nafterwards, the main character sees a person who looks exactly like the dead\nman. He discovers that it is his lover\u2019s twin, and begins to stalk him too. The\nlead convinces a female friend to help him, and conflict arises when she\nactually begins dating his new obsession. Critics rated this effort highly. One\nor two didn\u2019t like the oddball humor in the picture and changing tones. Yet all\nothers praised the performances, calling the film a surprisingly complex\nexamination of loss and guilt that possessed a surprisingly sharp and funny\nvoice. They believed the film worked much better than they initially expected.\nThe cast includes Dylan O\u2019Brien, James Sweeney, Aisling Franciosi and Chris\nPerfetti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n BLASTS FROM THE PAST!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Looking for something a little older? 88 Films is putting\nout The Angry River<\/em> (1971) on Blu-ray. It\u2019s the first film from\nlegendary studio Golden Harvest and is a period action picture about a woman\nsearching for a cure for her badly injured father. She must find a remedy and\nevade her dad\u2019s attackers. The film has been given a 2K restoration from the\noriginal negative, and comes with a film historian commentary, an image\ngallery, and a trailer. It appears with a slipcase with new art, as well as a\nreversible sleeve featuring original Hong Kong poster art<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Himalayan<\/em> (1976) is the tale of a woman seeking\nrevenge after her nasty brother-in-law frames her for adultery. This Hong Kong\nproduction was shot in Nepal and arrives on Blu-ray with a 2K picture\nrestoration from the original negative, a film historian commentary, and an\nimage gallery. It comes in a slipcase with new artwork, as well as a reversible\nsleeve with original Hong Kong poster image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Invincible Eight<\/em> (1971) is a feature about eight\nwarriors whose fathers have all been killed by a cruel general. They set out to\ndestroy the official and his system of power. The Blu-ray includes a 2K\nrestoration from the original camera negative, a film expert commentary,\ntrailers, and an image gallery. Like the other releases, the packaging features\na slipcase with new art, and a reversible sleeve with Hong Kong poster artwork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Alliance Entertainment (who used to be known as Mill Creek\nEntertainment) is putting out a pair of Japanese TV miniseries out on Blu-ray. Ultraman:\nTowards the Future<\/em> (1990) and Ultraman: The Ultimate Hero<\/em> (1993) are\nthe titles featured on this release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Criterion is releasing the drama The Delta<\/em> (1996) on\nBlu-ray. This independent American feature tells the story of a secretive young\nman who starts a relationship with a Vietnamese born, openly gay acquaintance.\nThe film has been given a 2K restoration supervised and approved by director\nIra Sachs. Bonuses include a 2001 director commentary, a new interview with the\nfilmmakers, two shorts by Sachs shot in the early 90s, and an essay on the\nmovie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Czechoslovakian film Karkatit <\/em>(1948) is arriving\nas a \u201cStandard Edition\u201d 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray \u2013 from Deaf Crocodile Films.\nIt\u2019s a science-fiction mystery about a chemist who invents a powerful\nexplosive, and then experiences delirium and regret for his actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Disney now owns Fox, which means that you may see the odd\nR-rated title arriving from the studio more associated with family-friendly\nentertainment. This week, you can pick up a 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray Steelbook\nof the excellent title Fight Club<\/em> (1999). Brad Pitt and Ed Norton star\nin this tale of an automotive recall expert who befriends a soap salesman. The\npair start up the unusual title organization. This release from David Fincher (Seven,\nZodiac, The Social Network<\/em>) promises a new 4K master of the movie approved\nby Fincher and presented in Dolby Vision. You\u2019ll also get an archival filmmaker\ncommentary, a director and cast commentary, a writer\u2019s commentary, a technical\ncommentary with crew, as well as featurettes on the sound design,\nbehind-the-scenes vignettes, deleted and alternative scenes, promo materials, a\nmusic video and much more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Scarlet Warning 666<\/em> (1974) is an independent, surreal\nhorror picture about Satanists that is arriving on Blu-ray with a soundtrack\nCD, courtesy of Grindhouse Releasing. The original 35mm negative has been\nrestored in 4K, and press materials list a screenwriter commentary, image\ngalleries, trailers, a documentary on the eccentric, late moviemaker, an\ninterview with the screenwriter, a cast member interview, a discussion with two\nfigures who attended the premiere sharing their thoughts on the movie, pieces\non the music, and a featurette about the producer\u2019s obscure movies and their\ninteresting music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s another busy edition for Kino Lorber. Charles Bronson\nmovie enthusiasts can pick up a 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray combo of 10 to\nMidnight<\/em> (1983), which follows a cop hunting down a serial killer. Specs\nfor this title include a 4K restoration of the original camera negative\npresented in Dolby Vision, a film historian commentary, a commentary with the\nproducer and casting director, interviews with cast members Andrew Stevens,\nRobert F. Lyons and Jeana Tomasina, as well as the film\u2019s producer.\nAdditionally, radio spots and a trailer are on the disc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n You can also pick up a Blu-ray of the James Stewart\/Rock\nHudson western Bend of the River<\/em> (1952). This release contains a 4K\npicture restoration from Universal, as well as two movie expert commentary\ntracks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Matt Dillon\/Sean Young thriller A Kiss Before Dying<\/em> (1991) is also arriving on Blu-ray. This remake of a 1956 Robert Wagner feature follows a woman whose twin sister dies mysteriously. After dating a new man, she discovers he may have had a connection to her sibling. This disc promises two film historian commentaries and a trailer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Rider on the Rain<\/em> (1970) is arriving as a 2-disc 4K\nUltra HD set. This is a French mystery starring Marl\u00e8ne Jobert and Charles\nBronson. The story starts with a woman murdering her rapist, only to find\nherself being pursued by an odd American investigator (played by Bronson). Both\nthe French cut and the American version have been newly restored in 4K and each\nversion contains a different film authority commentary. Trailers are also\nfeatured on the discs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The western buddy comedy Adios Amigo<\/em> (1976) is\narriving on Blu-ray from Leomark Studio. This effort stars Fred Williamson and\nRichard Pryor as a conman and cowboy who get into various adventures while\ntraveling through the west.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Seven Alone<\/em> (1974) is a period western drama about\nseven kids in the 1840s who are forced to go it alone from Missouri to Oregon\nafter their parents pass away. Neither of these titles come with bonuses, but\nthey\u2019re pretty hard to find in general, so at least you can now pick them up on\ndisc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The concert film Soul to Soul<\/em> (1971) is receiving a\nBlu-ray release from Liberation Hall. It features Ike & Tina Turner, Wilson\nPickett, Santana, The Staple Singers, The Voices of East Harlem and others\nplaying a show in Ghana and celebrating the country\u2019s 14th<\/sup>\nanniversary of their independence. This release comes packed with extras. There\nare four commentary tracks featuring the different bands, as well as an outtake\nperformance from Ike & Tina Turner, and a trailer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Over the past year, Mondo Macabro has put out several horror\nfilms from around the world as elaborate \u201cSpecial Editions\u201d. Now, you can pick\nup \u201cStandard Edition\u201d Blu-rays of titles from India, Indonesia, and one from\nGreece. Aatma<\/em> (2006), Island of the Doomed (<\/em>1967), Mystics in\nBali<\/em> (1981), and The Queen of Black Magic<\/em> (1981) are part of the\nlist of titles, in addition to a double-feature Blu-ray of Tahkhana – The\nDungeon<\/em> (1986) and Purani Haveli: The Monster Wakes<\/em> (1989). Features\non the discs will be the same as earlier editions, only in simpler packaging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Shout Factory is presenting one of their catalog titles in\nnew packaging. You can now pick up the cult horror\/comedy Motel Hell<\/em>\n(1980) as a 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray Steelbook. The discs are the same as the\nprevious 4K edition, only the casing is different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The baseball biopic Moneyball<\/em> (2011) is getting a 4K\nUltra HD and Blu-ray combo release from Sony Pictures. Brad Pitt stars as Billy\nBean, the Oakland A\u2019s general manager who used sports analytics to bring in a\nwinning team on a slim budget, getting them to the playoffs in the process.\nBesides the 4K transfer (the film was shot in 4K, so this is likely as good as\nit can look), it comes with deleted scenes, and a number of featurettes on the\nproduction and Bean\u2019s \u201cMoneyball\u201d system. Interested parties should note that\nearly review copies revealed an audio issue on the disc. Apparently,\nreplacement discs will be issued to those who purchase the movie before the\ncorrected copies arrive. As such, you might want to hold off a few weeks before\npicking it up. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The indie horror picture Make Them Die Sleazy<\/em> (2014)\nis arriving on Blu-ray from SRS Cinema. The disc also contains outtakes, an\ninterview, a video, trailers and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Cradle of Fear<\/em> (2001) is now a 2-disc \u201cCollector\u2019s\nEdition\u201d Blu-ray from Unearthed Films. It\u2019s a direct-to-disc, low-budget\nanthology horror movie from the UK and is famous for featuring members of the\nmetal band Cradle of Filth. Besides the feature, there is a making-of, a German\nDVD-making-of, promo materials, shorts from the director, promos, a\nbehind-the-scenes gallery and trailers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Universal Studios is giving the hit comedy Bridesmaids<\/em>\n(2011) a 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray upgrade. Kristin Wiig stars as a\nthirty-something woman struggling in her personal life who ends up being a Maid\nof Honor for her best friend. She attempts to get the wedding organized, but\nshe and the other bridesmaids get themselves into outrageous trouble along the\nway. The cast also includes Maya Rupdolph, Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Ellie\nKemper and Chris O\u2019Dowd. You\u2019ll get high quality editions of the unrated and\ntheatrical cuts of the movie, as well as a director and cast commentary,\ndeleted scenes, extended and alternate scenes, several featurettes and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n VCI is delivering Blu-ray of classic Mexican features. You\ncan now pick up Capitan de Rurales (<\/em>1951), Janitzio<\/em> (1935), El\nNino y la Niebla<\/em> (1953), and Traigo mi 45<\/em> (1952). They don\u2019t\nappear to contain bonuses, but at least you\u2019ll be able to own a copy of several\nclassics from south of the border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And, Visual Vengeance is delivering a Blu-ray double-feature\nset of two shot-on-video action pictures. Specifically, Born a Ninja<\/em>\n(1988) and Commando the Ninja<\/em> (1988). The first movie involves two pals\nwho specialize in their own brand of martial arts and must use their skills to\ntake down an evil scientist and his deadly assassins. The second title is a\nsequel in which the same protagonists are joined by two female fighters as they\nuncover a germ-warfare plot. You\u2019ll get SD masters of the movies from the\noriginal tape elements, along with filmmaker commentary tracks, video essays on\nthe titles, cast member interviews promo materials, two folded mini-posters with\noriginal VHS art, a reversible sleeve with VHS art, a booklet with essays on\nthe pictures, a sticker set, a slipcover and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Finally, Warner Archive is releasing George Stevens: A\nFilmmaker\u2019s Journey<\/em> (1984) as a 4K Ultra HD\/Blu-ray combo. This is a\ndocumentary on the life and career of Stevens, who directed classics like Swing\nTime, Gunga Din, A Place in the Sun, Shane, The Greatest Story Ever Told<\/em>\nand Giant<\/em>. The subject also shot combat footage in Europe during World\nWar II, and much of that material is presented here. This film has been given a\n4K restoration from the original camera negative.
