As mentioned in a previous column, I’ve got a series of Kickstarter projects going with award-winning artist Greg Hyland.
Time is running out on Monster Atlas Volume 2, Part 3: Eastern Europe. It’s a fun and fascinating full-color atlas with original maps and artwork featuring a selection of famous and enjoyably obscure monsters from all across Eastern Europe.
Hurry, there are only a couple of days left to support the project and one final “stretch goal” to be met! Now is the time to act! Your help could make the difference!
For those who need to know more, read all about it below…. And for those already familiar with the campaign, you can see even more monster art from the book at the bottom of this page.
So, for a while now I have been working on a series of books with artist Greg Hyland (creator of Lethargic Lad). They are full-color atlases documenting a selection of famous and not-so-familiar monsters from myth and legend, cryptozoology, literature, film & television and more with elaborate, detailed maps showing where they reside. The books have debuted on Kickstarter and response has been fantastic.
We’re pleased to announce a new campaign for our latest edition, Monster Atlas Volume 2, Part 3: Eastern Europe. Here’s the link…
Kickstarter has already deemed this edition a “Project We Love”, meaning that you can find also find the page by scrolling through a list of recently announced campaigns off of the title page.
As previously noted, the original Monster Atlas was a map-based, informative and occasionally spine-tingling guide to monsters from a variety of sources along with information detailing their location in the world. Volume 1 was focused on North and South America and featured nearly 400 monsters, including incredible illustrations, write-ups and trivia, as well as detailed maps with icons showing their location.
There were so many monsters for Volume 2, which covers all of Europe, that we had to break it up into three parts. Part 1 detailed UK & Ireland as well as Nordic countries, while Part 2 covered Western Europe.

The previous books have also been very well-received. Just read the following things some famous people had to say about them…
“For fans of strange, unusual, otherworldly creatures, the Monster Atlas series is a browser’s delight.” – James A. Owen, author and illustrator of Here, There Be Monsters
“There’s a handful of references on monsters of myth & folklore I keep in easy reach in my own drawing studio, and this book series holds pride-of-place among those books. Terrific fun, required reference, while also serving as a handy guide to creatures you might wish to avoid at all costs!” – Stephen R. Bissette (Swamp Thing, Taboo, Thoughtful Creatures)
I’m pleased to announce that Part 3: Eastern Europe is almost ready for publication, covering countries like Poland, Russia, and the Ukraine, as well as Greece.
This may be the best book we’ve ever put together. As many know, Eastern Europe is home to many noteworthy monsters. Vampires came from this part of the world and you’ll be sure to see entries on Dracula and several other bloodsuckers. And you’ll also learn more about Baba Yaga, the Golem, the Minotaur and other famous creatures.
There’s plenty that is familiar here, but it also presents incredible beings that will be completely new to you. Even more time and research went into this edition – you’ll see mindboggling new and obscure beasts unlike anything else around the world. They will shock and stun you to your core!
You will see bizarre aliens, irradiated creatures, Satanic beasts, a demon who disco-dances, dragons, woodland trolls, psychotic killers, bizarre animal hybrids, dangerous bipedal frogs, tree monsters, as well as a breed of cattle who shoot flaming excrement from their asses. And for those with the appetite, there is even a giant killer moussaka. You’ve never seen or read anything like this before!
Overall, the book will include roughly 300 creatures from Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Czechia, Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and the Ukraine. This our most exciting, informative and entertaining volume yet and we can’t wait to share it with you.
We need your help to make Monster Atlas Volume 2: Part 3: Eastern Europe not only a reality, but the most memorable book in the series!
And, if enough copies are sold, some big-time comic book artists will be adding their work to this edition, including Steve Stegelin (editorial cartoonist for the Charleston City Paper in South Carolina), Paul Pelletier (Guardians of the Galaxy, The Incredible Hulk), Gerhard (Cerebus, Heavy Metal magazine) and John Kovalic (Dork Tower, the Munchkin card game). Some of our financial goals have already been unlocked, meaning we only need a few more to make every element of the book a reality!
And just so you know, the book can be shipped worldwide and prices are listed in Canadian funds (CA$). For US customers, if you see CA$ next to a number, it means that when converted to US dollars, the price will actually be about 20% less. Instant discount!
Monsters are all around us and it’s in our best interest to know as much about them as we can. Monster Atlas Volume 2 Part 3: Eastern Europe will provide all the necessary details for you to learn about these incredible creatures!
